My Kindergarten students are English language learners that range from ages 5 to 6 years old. They attend a Title I inner city public school in California. The school is in a high poverty neighborhood where parents speak little or no English. About one-fourth of my class participates in in the after school program five days a week. For many of my students Kindergarten is their first school experience.
