Just Keep Swimming, Red Tails!
Funded Dec 9, 2024On behalf of the River City Middle School's first ever competitive swim team, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks for your generous contribution toward the purchase of essential gear for our swimmers. Thanks to your support, we were able to provide the team with towels, goggles, duffel bags, water bottles, and swim caps, all of which are crucial for their training and competition.
Your donation has made a significant impact on the team's success and has given these young athletes the tools they need to thrive in their sport. This being our very first competitive swim team, your kindness has not only provided the material resources but also reinforced the spirit of community and teamwork that makes this experience even more meaningful.
We had an amazing first season and are grateful that you were part of this journey with us. Your support is truly appreciated. Once again, thank you for your generosity and belief in our students. It's people like you who make a real difference in their lives.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Rymer

Funded Aug 25, 2024I am writing to extend my heartfelt thanks for your incredible generosity in supporting my 7th-grade classroom with essential school supplies. Your kindness has made a direct impact on our students' daily experience, enabling them to focus on their learning without the worry of lacking basic materials. Thanks to your thoughtful contributions, I was able to purchase a laminator, printer toner, tissues, command strips, pencils, and markers that help keep our space engaging and functional.
These supplies have become an essential part of our classroom community. They support everything we do, from individual assignments to group projects. Because of you, every student has what they need to participate actively, take pride in their work, and experience learning in a hands-on, enriching way. Having materials readily available also promotes a sense of belonging and inclusion, as each student now has equal access to the tools necessary for success.
One of my main goals as a teacher is to create a learning environment where each student feels empowered, valued, and encouraged to reach their fullest potential. By providing these much-needed supplies, you've helped me achieve this goal in such a profound way. Your support means my students can focus their energy on tackling new concepts, practicing their skills, and working collaboratively without the distraction or frustration of not having the tools they need. The joy and excitement on their faces when they realized they had access to fresh supplies was truly priceless.
In addition to supporting academic growth, the supplies you helped provide have also allowed us to introduce creative projects and interactive learning opportunities. The new markers, for example, have added a vibrant touch to our social studies projects, encouraging students to approach learning with creativity and enthusiasm. Each day, I witness them diving into their work with newfound energy and pride, which wouldn't be possible without your support.
Please know that your generosity has had a lasting effect on our classroom and will continue to positively impact our learning throughout the school year. My students and I are so grateful for your commitment to their education and well-being. I truly appreciate the care you've shown in making sure each of them has what they need to succeed.
Thank you once again for your kindness and support. We are beyond grateful for your generosity and for believing in the potential of each and every student. Together, you've helped make our classroom a space where students can thrive, dream big, and work toward their goals with confidence. I look forward to sharing updates on our progress and the many ways your contributions continue to make a difference.
With warmest gratitude,”

Funded Aug 10, 2024Thank you so much for your generous support in helping us secure 20 sets of headphones for our classroom! These headphones are already making a big difference in our learning environment, allowing each of my 7th graders to engage more deeply with interactive lessons and explore new educational resources. My students use the headphones daily while working on independent tasks and enjoy being able to listen to their own music. Your kindness has truly enriched their daily experience, and we're incredibly grateful. Thank you for being champions of education!”

There's Magic in the Sound Ver. 3.0
Funded Nov 28, 2022Once again your generosity has made a huge impact on my classroom. The headphones, as always, are a hit with my 7th grade students. By the time we received the headphones, we were down to only about 10 pairs. Half of those only worked on one side. To say the students were excited is an understatement. As you can see in the photos, my students use these daily and for all reasons. Most recently, we were learning about the Harlem Renaissance. The students were doing research on the Apollo Theater and listening to music by artists who have performed there. Some students simply prefer to listen to music as they complete assignments or watch videos during lunch. So, thank you for all you have done to make our classroom more enjoyable.”

Ms. Rymer
Diversity Is Not the Enemy
Funded May 5, 2022Last spring, towards the end of our World War II unit, I brought out my class set of "They Called Us Enemy" by George Takei. We had just learned about the Japanese Internment Camps and the Holocaust. They students were already making connections between the the two. As I was passing out the books, I explained that this story was going to help us to better understand what the camps were like through the memory of someone who was there. Before we opened the book, we watched the TedTalk that George Takei gave 2014. They listened to his story, many recognized him from the various films and television shows he has been in.
Then, we began reading. I turned on a jazz station, lowered the lights, and asked them to read up to a certain spot. As they started to finish, I asked them to talk about what they read with their neighbor (once they had finished as well). I moved around the room, listening to their conversations. They talked about George's journey and how long it took, about how aggressive the soldiers were, about how it sounded a lot like how the Jews were also forced from their homes and into camps. It went on like this. My students gained so much from reading this book. Thanks to your generosity, I will be able to do this activity again this year, and for several years to come. Thank you.”

Funded Dec 22, 2021My students and I are so incredibly grateful for your help in getting us new headphones for our classroom. Each day, my students watch a video of a current event and connect it to what we are studying in history. Now, with enough headphones for everyone, our routines at the beginning of class are much quieter and the students are able to better understand the videos. Having them do it like this really helps my students who may need to watch the video more than once.
My students also have to eat lunch in the classroom. During this 30 minute period, many chat with there friends while they eat though I have a few that prefer to have alone time and like to watch YouTube or other videos during this free time. The headphones give the a small space where they can do something they enjoy.
The students have commented how comfortable the headphones are and enjoy the sound quality. I even loan some out to a few students who enjoy having them throughout the day.
Again, thank you so much for your support of this project.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Rymer
Make the Past a Virtual Reality
Funded Nov 28, 2019I am writing to you today to share the amazing story of Virtual Reality. Last summer, I attended a workshop hosted by Virginia Humanities' Encyclopedia Virginia which was funded by the Charles Fund in Chancellorsville, Virginia. This workshop taught about 20 Virginia Teachers how to document local history using 360 images. We learned how to take the pictures using the 360 cameras the Charles Fund gave to each participant. I immediately knew I wanted to look for a way to acquire a Google Expedition Kit.
I knew this project would be a challenge to get funded due to the cost. It was surprisingly was funded a few days before it expired. The kit arrived programmed and ready to go thanks to Best Buy Education. I spent a few days getting to know the equipment. When I finally brought it to school, I could never imagine the excitement of the students.
As of writing this letter, we have completed 3 different virtual field trips. Our first one was to visit the Great Wall of China. The students were blown away when the learned about the architecture and history of this wonder. Our 2nd trip was to visit the new Women's Monument in downtown Richmond. This tour I created myself. We also looked at primary sources relating to Women's Suffrage. Our most recent trip was to examine the ruins of a WWI trench and a reproduction WWI battle scene.
I cannot fully explain my gratitude to you for helping to bring this amazing technology to my classroom.”

Ms. Rymer
Back to the Basics
Funded Aug 28, 2019Basic school supplies are often paid for out of a teacher's own pocket. Thanks to you, I didn't have to do that this year. We use these supplies daily.
The glue helps to keep our interactive notebooks orderly. The markers and color pencils have been used to demonstrate what we have learned by making campain posters for the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments. The highliters come in handy when we are looking at a primary source about "Jim Crow" laws. They help us to see the important information in a text.
These supplies keep our classroom running at full speed.”

Funded Feb 28, 2019Your kind donation provided my classroom with a technology presentation cart. The presentation cart has made a huge impact on our class. This cart perfectly holds the projector, document camera, and laptop. It was really easy to assemble and takes the fraction of space our old cart did. And it doesn't wobble!! I do not have to constantly calibrate the Smartboard every few minutes because this one does not wobble. This also freed up space in the room to make a better arrangement for the tables will allows for a better view of the board for all students.
This cart has added much ease to our classroom. I offer my deepest gratitude for your generous donation.”
