Art and Imagination!
Funded Dec 4, 2018Thank you all for helping to provide to my classroom. We appreciate all of your thoughtfulness and generosity. We have been using our new materials for a few different activities. The Mr. Sketch markers worked great when I was able to switch places with a 1st grade teacher for a day (Wow, is it different than 5th!). The students used spinners to 'Spin a Scent'. Then, they used that scent to write one of their site words for the week. They loved how fruity their papers smelled after the fact! Meanwhile, my big kids, the fifth graders have been busy working on a couple different projects in class. They had to research an inventor and prepare a face board. The construction paper that was donated gave students so many options to help give their projects some extra pizazz. Next up, we will be working on a Titanic project based learning experience. The students will use the materials in their stations for the Titanic museum we will put on display. Again, I can't thank you all enough to donating to my project, we appreciate it all so much!”

Comfy, Cozy, & Conducive for Learning
Funded Mar 27, 2018We are wrapping up our school year and had a great time for the last few months with our awesome materials. We definitely got a lot of use out of the bean bag chairs and rug. The chairs provided comfortable seating options for getting some last minute reading in. The students had to earn their Accelerated Reader points by May, so they spent a lot of time reading. The bags and rug also provided a perfect setting for students to get cozy to watch our end of the year slideshow on the last day of school. The lamps provided great light for the students while working on our end of the year projects. And, we all loved everything! We can't thank you enough for the great things that we were able to add to our classroom this year!”

Funded Feb 15, 2018Thank you again for your generosity which helped to bring our project to life. We have already gotten started reading "Holes" as a class. We are able to read it as a whole group and practice skills that normally can't happen with a read aloud book. Students have been able to read along and help read aloud when we are in whole group. Reading out loud allows students to work on reading fluency, which is how well they read to others. This skill helps students to become better readers and builds their vocabulary. We have also been able to read independently. The students LOVE the book and are so interested in it. I cannot wait to start reading "Matilda" next week!”

Students, Come on Down!
Funded Jul 12, 2017Thank you so much again for your generosity! We have already broken out the games and they are a hit. We first decided to try them all out as a reward. Students have a few expectations to meet each week, and when they meet those expectations they earn 'Fun Friday'. So, for Fun Friday, we took all the games outside to try them out. The students had a blast. They also know that we are using them again this week and next week for science review and math reviews. We will get in teams and each correct answer will allow them to participate in one of the games. I cannot thank you enough for helping get these games in my classroom. There is so much more fun to be had!”

Creation Station
Funded May 23, 2017Thank you so much for donating to our cause. We appreciate it so much. The technology that we received has already been hard at work. We are able to design personalized items for projects, bulletin boards, and more. Many times, student projects lack the pizazz that other students may have had help with. The Cricut can give students that would not normally have the access to purchasing extra materials, the opportunity to create something that they can be proud of.
The students love that they are able to design pretty much anything they want on the web-based design program and the Cricut will cut and draw it for them. They are learning some cool design skills while they are at it. We started with an easy project to warm the students up. They come up with alliterative group names each month. For this month, they were to find an image and a font to create a group flag using the capabilities of our new technology. It has worked great, so thank you again from the bottom of my heart!”

Funded Feb 23, 2017I cannot thank you enough for your support for our classroom project. It is so nice to know that people are appreciative of our efforts in the classroom. My students love our new 'toys' and we have already begun to put them to use. So far, we started using the Eggs-pert game buttons in small groups. We played a science trivia review to prepare for a test. We also used it towards a Titanic review. We had been working on a fifth grade project about Titanic, so it was a fun way to end our unit. The other item, the answer buttons, have been so much fun to play around with. The answer buttons allow every group a chance to provide an answer. I love these new products so much, I may get around to ordering some more! My students love the noises, lights, competitiveness, and fun these new activities have brought to the classroom. Thank you again for your generosity and for supporting our classroom.”

Stop, Collaborate, & Listen
Funded Mar 9, 2016My students and I have been working hard as we prepare for our yearly testing and everything else that comes with the end of a school year. Students were excited to rearrange and organize the classroom in a new fashion. They have been working on cooperation and organization, which are vital skills to have as they move to middle school. Students have been able to work more closely and efficiently for our science labs and stem projects we have tried since receiving our tables. They have done a fantastic job working together and helping each other stay on task by being in our current set up.”

Photographers Of Tomorrow!
Funded Oct 28, 2015Thank you again for your generosity. It means a lot that you were willing to help improve our classroom. The cameras that we received were used by the 5th graders, mostly the yearbook assistants. With access to more cameras, I have been able to allow more students the experience of taking pictures. When these students have the cameras, they feel so important and take their job seriously. Who knows, it may lead to some future photographers! They really enjoy having access to this technology and they do a wonderful job at it. Our next assignment will be using the cameras to document "crime scenes" & evidence for science. Thanks again!”

Extra! Extra! Read All About It!
Funded Mar 29, 2014Now that school is officially underway, we have been able to start utilizing our new resource! The students love the new stories that they have access to. They are much more interested in the current events and neat stories in our magazines.
Each week students have a chance to read one or two of the pages in our magazines. We use small groups to get the most instruction possible. These small groups then work together to read the articles, solve any questions, and write responses. These provide a much-needed alternative to our out-dated small group reading materials that we currently have.
The students have really enjoyed our small group instruction in the afternoons this year. I credit a lot of it to the magazines. They like what they read which is increasing their fluency without drudging through boring stories that they cannot relate to. The article also come with a teacher's guide page with additional activities to do on the weeks that we have a little extra time. It also allows for differentiated learning for students on different levels.”

Say Cheese!
Funded Sep 19, 2013Thank you all again so very much for your kindness and donations! The students were very excited and enthusiastic upon receiving our cameras. They immediately wanted to get right to using them. The students were also excited that more of them would be able to take pictures of events. Several of the students have been very 'protective' of the equipment since they arrived, and have been great role models of how to properly handle them.
We received the cameras just in time to use them for a recent project that fifth grade was working on. Students were able to photograph and video each other presenting. Each group presented a different body system, so we were able to capture that for the yearbook. Students have also been able to utilize the beautiful fall weather that we have been having and capture some outdoor shots of students in every grade.
Students have been very quick to volunteer to take pictures of our class and others. They have really enjoyed having nice equipment to assist them in helping me put together the yearbook. We really appreciate everything that you have given and hope you check back soon for some pictures of the kids and some photos taken by the kids.”
