  • Mentor Texts for Creative Writing

    Funded Nov 18, 2024

Your investment to our classroom library with mentor texts for writing was the cherry on top the past months. The past two quarters we have taken a deeper approach in writing narrative, expository and opinion essays. We navigated through learnin about the importance of prewriting, outlining and piecing together our ideas into something we could be proud of!

These books and their particular "crafts" or style of writing such as: use of descriptive words, how to start a story, usage and development of characters, sequence of events and timelines all helped us visualize what we needed to be good writers. Even though our goal to use these books as mentors texts to reference, we still can't seem to get enough of them.

Thank you again for making our learning something we will take with us as crafty writers.”

  • Books for Social-Emotional Learning

    Funded May 19, 2023

Thank you so much for investing in our classroom. We started our third-grade year with some great read-alouds from the books you purchased for us. We learned about integrity, respect, demonstrating empathy for others, and having grit through situations/obstacles we may face both in academics and everyday life.

We enjoyed the diverse stories and their characters to model and demonstrate what those social-emotional skills are and ways that we can model those both in and outside of the classroom. As they now sit in our classroom library, we are able to refer back to them whenever we need a refresh and set and ready for next year's class.

    Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rubio-Valle

  • Readers, Assemble!

    Funded Jan 12, 2023

Thank you so much for investing in our journey of reading! We had so much fun this year learning about different genres, exploring new ideas, and getting lost in the worlds of the many characters we learned about.

We have definitely made some significant strides with our reading achievement, coming into our school year with 8% of us being able to read at grade level and ending the year at 41% with 32% approaching! We cannot express how much you have done for us by helping us purchase the books and materials to inspire us along the way. Many thank yous!”

  • Let's Make Good Choices!

    Funded Aug 11, 2020

We have had an amazing time learning new content through our new scholastic choice magazines! Just this past quarter we have learned about character reaction to events, main idea (using text evidence) and motive and impact of social media.

This past semester we loved diving into literature books like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe. We were ecstatic to receive some different reading material regarding informational text.

Since we are virtually learning at our school site, having a digital copy of our magazines as well as a physical did a lot of help! We are now learning how to annotate more effectively both online and off. Not to mentioned reading about kids that are similar to age as us is pretty cool! We are excited to read more copies of scholastic news in the future. We cannot thank you enough for your investment in our learning. Thank you thank you thank you!”

  • Empathy Adventure Through The Ozarks!

    Funded Oct 9, 2019

At the beginning of our school year, it was definitely a challenge. Very fast we learned that our classroom members had experienced some type of trauma in their lives and it was a challenge to relate to others, show empathy and establish relationships. While reading this book, we explored another realm of thought and perspective.

Using this book has impacted our classroom so much by allowing us to feel, express and acknowledge what is good to keep and bad to let go. Exploring Ozark life with Billy had changed a lot of perspectives and allowed for vulnerability to take place. Many members of our class have made great strides in not only their love for literacy but emotional intelligence. It was such a great thing to see a be apart of. In quote of Wilson Rawls, "You were worth it, old friend, and a thousand times over."

    Thank you!”

  • Fish Out of Water

    Funded May 6, 2019

The last 6 weeks of school went by in a flash! However, what resided in them was a greater understanding of learning disabilities, friendship and kindness.

Every day after lunch, We read out loud, "Fish in a Tree," followed by a class discussion of a theme that was addressed. We talked about dyslexia and what it looks like and how it can sometimes make someone feel out of place in school. We explore within ourselves times, in school where we might have felt like a fish out of water. We laughed, we cried and we learned the foundation of every relationship we create. Kindness, grace and love will always win.

We appreciate your help in building up our love for reading, igniting some awesome conversations and guided us to learn some skills in how to make all feel welcomed at school.”

  • We're Just Some Wizards Livin' in a Muggle World...

    Funded Oct 25, 2018

This year in our Harry Potter club was definitely a learning experience for all of us. Our club received so much great reviews from our wizards that our club almost doubled. This year we hit the ground running once we received our Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone books. We learned about character analysis, plot and resolution and theme.

We often took breaks with playing Harry Potter Headbands, Uno and learning more about the Hogwarts Houses(which we found out that many are part of Hufflepuff and Gryffindor houses). Having both books and games allowed us to check our comprehension of the story and ignited our fire to learn more about Harry and his adventures.

We can't wait to start the second book this Spring and learn more about Harry, Hermione and Ron's next adventure and how to battle Voldemort. Thank you for investing in our love for reading and learning!”

  • Project Giving Tree: 4-6 Grade Philanthropy Club

    Funded Nov 2, 2017

It has been an amazing journey for our philanthropy club. At the beginning of the year, we began with 4 members which then turned into 15, all ranging from 4th to 6th grade. Students with different academic and cultural backgrounds but most of all, they all have the same thing, a giving heart.

Having the iPad, presenters adapter and sprocket made the community events we hold to be more memorable for not only our kiddos who are in our club but those who inspire to be apart of it in the years to come. We assisted in raising money for Jump Rope for Heart with our school, fundraised at our local hometown buffet to prepare turkey dinners for some families in our community, volunteered at our local animal shelter and help raise money to help fight hunger with our Community Food Bank. Having the new materials really helped our kiddos reflect on memories, make blueprints for next years events and present their journey to others with our community.

As a teacher and their adviser it has been a true blessing to see their mindsets change from fixed to growth have a little pep in their step as they walk the halls of the school and hold such honor for what they do in their community. All of this is in GREAT THANKS to all of you. Thank you for your investment in our club's mission.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rubio-Valle

Welcome! Bienvenidos! Tuaj los! Thank you for visiting my page. In our classroom we love to explore current happenings, discuss cultural beliefs and backgrounds but most of all we love to read! For the Spring semester we are going to be learning about social justice, leaders during the Civil Rights movement, the Holocaust and the great works of Sandra Cisneros. Our hopes in learning in depth about these happenings and individuals, will create a blueprint for change. We hope to learn from these great individuals and challenge ourselves in taking a look into ourselves, marvel in our strengths, exercise in strengthening our weaknesses and become more accountable in our community.
