All Hands-on Science!
Funded Sep 11, 2023I want to thank you again for donating to my project, and my students' love of learning. There is nothing more exciting than to hear students cheer when I tell them that it is time for science. Okay, technically, they check our daily schedule and say, "Isn't it time for science?" When I say yes, they cheer.
The hand held microscopes have been an exciting new addition to our classroom. It allows us to move around the room, and outside. My students can't wait to show other students what they're looking at.
They were particularly interested in studying landforms. A discussion of whether deltas are liquid or solid, led to us exploring pictures of deltas around the world. Which led to a picture of a delta in the Jezero Crater on Mars. Which led to discussions of the search for life on other planets and moons in our solar system. Our next steps will be devising testable questions, and demonstrations and experiments to answer those questions.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Parnell

Funded Dec 5, 2022Thank you so much for bringing excitement into my classroom. This year my students learned to use microscopes. We looked at items such as: insects, salt, leaves, rocks, and oranges. Students brought objects from home and we gathered plants at school. The microscopes enhanced our science lessons, and ignited their curiosity. Student comments: "I learned how to focus the microscopes." "You could see things really close up." "I learned that you could look through things, and also through things that are alive."
With Bee-Bots and Blue Bots my students got an engaging introduction to coding. They progressed through exploring the command buttons to writing code to a desired directions, to inputting their code into the Bee/Blue-Bots, to reading other student's code and predicting the Bee/Blue-Bots destinations. Student comments: " I learned coding, and different techniques to code." "Bee-Bots helped me learn so I don't forget directions." "That was the first time I ever saw a robot." "I was surprised that when we pressed go, that they actually worked." In the future they would like to make Bee/Blue Bots do obstacles.
Your donations gave my students new pathways to learning. Everybody became a new language learner by diving into coding. Shy students became bold when using microscopes and Bee/Blue Bots. Leaders learned how to include all students in their group activities. I saw my students become more confident learners and eager STEM students. They became curious investigators. Thank you for helping me to Prepare the Artemis Generation!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Parnell
