Funded Apr 4, 2024Thank you for your donation to help our classroom stay up to date with the essential items. Markers consistently get used and then dry out, we use one box of Kleenex per month, and whiteboards get old and no longer erases. Additionally folders often need to replaced during the year as they rip or get overused. Folders are essential for student organization in our math class. It is where we keep our notes and homework. With over 100 students in my math and finacial literacy classes essential supplies like markers and folders are always in need. Although they aren't the most exciting materials, it is something we use daily. Thank you for making our daily school day better.”

Building an Investigative Math Classroom
Funded Dec 4, 2023Thank you again for your donations. I have been using the white boards routinely in our math class. Students have been able to share ideas, teach others, and work in groups. The classroom white boards have become the envy of our hallway. Students look forward to using the whiteboards in class, and very thankful they no longer have to use the whiteboard papers that easily rip and are hard to erase. We have been using them to explore multi-step performance tasks. Students have ample space to find multiple ways to solve the problem and to guess and check as needed. The open space of whiteboards and flexibility to erase and try again have helped students who are often unsure of their answers to try new things and use various methods.
Additionally, other teachers have also used the whiteboards in their classes. The supplies I got, pencils and tissues, also have been shared with other teachers as needed as well. The impact with all these supplies have been a huge boon to our entire grade. Thank you to all who have donated, especiallly "A Family that cares about Boston".”

Funded Jan 3, 2023Thank you for your donation. We were able to secure a class set of headphones. Students have already been putting them to use in science, ELA, and ELL classes. Kids have used them to watch videos about animal structure which helped them to understand what they would be dissecting in science class. Students who initially have not used headphones also started realizing that using them helped them focus. Instead of being distracted the headphones refocuses students on the work in front of them and helps them to write down what they know. Thank you so much for your support. It has truly made a difference in how we assess and engage students in verbalizing their knowledge and view a variety of resources to learn from.”

Ms. He's Math Classroom
Funded Nov 29, 2022Thank you again for your donation. We have been working on thinking tasks in our math classes that challenges students to solve higher thinking work as a team. Students have been using the white board and markers during group work and it's replaced a very old and much loved white board and old dried out markers. Students were excited to finally have different colors avaiable so that each team member can have a different color.
We've also used the materials such as the colored pencils and markers during our whole school world cup event to celebrate the mutlicultural community we have. Our class focused on Mexico and worked together to decorate our classroom door to represent Mexico. It took about 4 days and was a lot of fun. We even got 3rd place in our 6th grade for our door decoration! Other materials such as the stickers have been used in our school store as a incentive for students who earn Garfield Bucks through showing good Habits of Work. One student also commented to me that she is loving the new mini notebooks and have been using it every day.
Next, we hope to also print colorful certificates for student awards in our grade and in our math classes we hope to start a tradition of recognizing a Mathmatician of the Day (someone who asked a math question that helped us learn more or shared something that helped us learn) and Mathlete of the Day (someone who improved a lot in class today). To achieve this we are hoping to do another Donor's choose to get a colored printer and ink.”
