    Funded Oct 10, 2017

This is just a small token of our gratitude for your generous donation to our learning community. As you know school can be tough for children. The increased demand of rigor and how academics are now taught to children requires perseverance and resilience on their part. By reading one wonderful book in the classroom as a shared experience, we have transformed how conversations are held openly. Together we discussed the message of the novel, "choose kind."

Our middle school students grew their capacity for empathy! Every minute of every day, students are making choices in how they choose to interact with each other. Through our thoughtful discussions we saw the power we have to either build up or break down the human spirit.

Without donors like you, thousands of classrooms in the United States would go without.

"We carry with us, as human beings, not just the capacity to be kind, but the very choice of kindness."”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. R.

  • There's Only One You: Make the World a Better Place!

    Funded Oct 25, 2017

Thank you all so much for your generous donations and for making this project a reality for my students!! The supplies that you are providing to my students will allow them to understand how one person can make a positive impact on others and on the world, and will help to make our school a kinder and more beautiful place. We try to offer as many opportunities to our students as we can, and your support makes it possible for us to continue to do this. My students will do their best to write/draw "thank you" notes! I appreciate your interest and support so much.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. R.

Middle schoolers begin to be more aware of what's happening in the world and how that affects them. That is why we must teach the skill of empathy to our students. Empathy is a skill that strengthens with practice and encourages people to give and receive it often. Kindness can become its own motive. We are made kind by being kind. It is a continuous refining process. Wonder gives us a perfect opportunity to engage the child holistically. This is a story that can inspire our students and to give them the courage to take on others' perspectives. As well as increase their social emotional wellness. Who are you inspired to be? We hope our students have the sense of wonder and aspire to be kind and empathetic individuals, who will then embody and advocate kindness and empathy wherever they go. Our 5th and 6th graders need a copy of the novel Wonder by R.J. Palacio to begin to study the internal and external conflict within the characters and to analyze particular events to create connections between themselves and the world. The culminating activity gives our students a chance to create a social change campaign on how we all can spread kindness and empathy within the walls of our school and the community.
