  • Headphones for Remote Learning

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

I want to thank you for the support and the supplies that you have given us. This has not been an easy year for any of us and our students are thriving and growing as learners thanks to the headphones you have provided for them.

I noticed back in October that since our students have siblings at home participating in their own classes and or have parents working in the background, the noise was going to be distracting and they were going to struggle concentrating.

With the headphones they are more engaged and can hear me out and clear. Specially when it comes to phonics, it is important that at this early age they get the phonemic awareness, that they get those sounds so that they can recognize them and use them when reading.

I have seen a tremendous change in our classroom and our students are reading or some are beginning to read due to the help that these headphones have given us.

I cannot say it enough, thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Roman

  • Primary Writing FUN!!!

    Funded Apr 5, 2021

For the past few weeks I have been working alongside other school staff members to make sure that every child gets their materials. We put together envelopes and ziplock bags with their notebooks, writer journals, pencils and flash cards for sight words.

Most of our students have picked them up at the school are currently using them for help with sight words and writing in general. Our students now have writing utensils which they can use for any subject and a notebook which has come very handy for phonics, writing, science and social studies.

My class is on their way to becoming amazing writers all thanks to your amazing donation to our classroom.

I have also attached some of the work our students have began doing.”

    With gratitude,

  • Social Emotional Growth

    Funded Jul 8, 2020

I would like to start out by saying thank you for your contribution to our classroom. This has extremely been very helpful for our students specially this year. My students are brand new to the school system and have been staying home for the last 6 months. Trauma and social emotional growth has been our focus since the beginning of the school year.

Our cozy corner is always available and open for our students. This is an area where they go to relax and reflect on what they are feeling. With the mirrors and social and emotional cards they are able to identify their feelings and share with us whether its by using visuals or by using what language they already posses.

Since we are split up into cohorts our students have the opportunity to use the cozy area one at a time, before two could enter but due to Covid restrictions and social distancing rules, one child is able to enter at a time and when they are finished we clean the area for others who might want to go in.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Roman

  • Creative Me

    Funded Jun 27, 2020

First an foremost I would like to thank you once again for your kind donation to our classroom. This year has been one big roller coaster ride, going from in person instruction to completely working remotely. When our students started at the beginning of the year, I opened up our art area so that they would have access to materials to be creative and let their creativity show. Something that I do every year is for my students to create a self portrait where they use any kind of materials in the classroom to create their faces. This allows our students to be represented in our classroom community.

Art isn't just an activity it is a way for our students to express themselves. Specially in our prek classroom many of students come in with very little language. Art and art materials allow our students to create and form many for them to express themselves, whether its by emotion with our emotion mats, or express a thought through drawing and Popsicle sticks.

Unfortunately some of our supplies just only recently arrived, so those will distributed to our students so that they can also have at home and use them to create and play. One of the biggest things that has been very famous for our students is the playdough, this has helped them so much with fine motor skills. For some it was even something new, something they had not even seen before.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Roman

  • A Reflection of Who I am

    Funded Jun 17, 2020

The impact that this book has had on my students is amazing. My schools main focus for our community, specially our students is to help foster a love for reading. These books have not only provided materials that are age appropriate for our students but have also provided multicultural books which represent all our students. Unfortunately due to the pandemic our class has had to go remote after a few weeks of in-person instruction. Sharing our classroom books has been challenging, but with the help from resources like screencastify, loom and uploading books onto google slides for our students to read on their own at home has given my assistant and I a big help.

For the first couple of weeks which our students were in person, students were beyond excited to read these new titles. I had placed our books all over the classroom, that way our students could have easy access to books in each center. Some of our students favorite books are the emotion books, and Spanish language books for our ENLs, they also love the If You Give a Mouse a Cookie and The Wheels on the Bus.

Since being remote, I use a book a day and partake in a read alouds during our morning meetings, due to the amount of screen time, which our students love. Students are extremely engaged and participate in the projects that follow our read alouds. These books have sparked our students interest in books and curiosity in seasons, community jobs, and classroom responsibilities.

Once again, thank you for making our inclusive classroom library come to life, these books will continue to impact our students in years to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Roman

Every month we have a different unit of study, which consists of me and the assistant teacher transforming our classroom into the unit which we are covering. Our classroom consists of play-based-learning, and the students being able to choose which area/center they would like to go to. Having a variety of age appropriate level books would bring our library and classroom to life.Giving our students the opportunity to read a variety of books that engages them and that they could learn from. Our classroom focuses on showing our students that reading is fundamental and enjoyable. We want our library to represent the students and units that we will be covering. We want our students to grow academically and foster a love for reading. "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you'll go.: -Dr. Seuss, "I can read with My Eyes Shut!"
