• Hocus Pocus, Flexible Seating Helps Me Focus!

  My class of wonderful second graders were ecstatic when they walked in one morning and saw bike pedals and surf desks in the classroom. They were immediately full of questions and could not contain themselves. Once I introduced the new resources and explained the rules for these items, they wanted to explore different ways we can use them in the classroom. The very first time we used the bike pedals as a class was for a brain break activity. The students needed a release and instead of a freeze-dance brain break, we did a bike pedal version. The students absolutely loved it!! Throughout the year, we did similar brain breaks, but also the students utilized the bike pedals when they needed help sitting at their desks, facing forward. The bike pedals helped students maintain their focus while keeping their bodies busy. The surf desks were also a big hit! Because we have a large class size and practicing social distance, the students in the back of the classroom often had a hard time seeing the board. These surf desks made learning accessible for everyone in the room. These materials were amazing in the classroom!”
