iCan With An iPad!
Funded Jan 26, 2018Our students were so excited when they heard the news that we received funding for our new classroom iPads! We have used the new iPads to reinforce important skills they have learned this year. The students are motivated to learn using technology and don't even realize they are learning while doing so.
Our students enjoy playing educational games, listening to audio books and using various apps to improve their social skills. During our Language Arts block, we use audio books for our class to listen to a variety of books which helps them to improve both reading fluency and reading comprehension. Listen to Reading is one of our student's favorite parts of Daily 5. We are so grateful to use various websites to support their reading.
Our students have also benefited from using different educational apps to reinforce sight word knowledge, spelling words and math skills. There are so many amazing educational apps available that the students feel like they are playing and not working! Students can also use websites to do research on their favorite topics. Rain forest research was a big hit with our students this year!
Thank you again for your support of our class. We are very grateful for your generosity.”

Funded Mar 20, 2017Thank you for supporting our classroom! The new materials have helped us in many different ways. The new stools, ink cartridges and keyboard have been very useful for our students.
Before using flexible seating in my classroom, I noticed the students would fidget more often and need more body breaks. With the addition of the wiggle stools, students have the flexibility to move while they are working! This has helped to add more instructional time in the classroom.
The addition of a wireless keyboard and mouse allows students to move around the classroom while activating the Smart Board from anywhere in the room. The ink cartridges have allowed us the flexibility of printing our work immediately and being able to share it with classmates right away. My students have been so excited to use these materials this year.”

Maximize Our Learning With Flexible Seating Choices and Organized Materials
Funded Nov 28, 2016We are so grateful for your donation towards our flexible seating materials and storage containers. Current research shows that students learn best when they can have short bouts of physical activity in the classroom. Our wobble chairs, ball chairs, stools and cushions have allowed our students the opportunity to move around while they are learning. Also, students can make choices in their seating to find the best fit for their learning style. The students are so excited to have a choice in their seating preference and often benefit from varying their choice throughout the day.
The new storage options we purchased with your donations have allowed the students to access their materials more efficiently. They allow students more independence in managing their own materials. This has allowed our BUILD centers during math instruction to run very smoothly. We can also clean up quickly which allows us more time for instruction and learning. Thank you for your support and dedication to education.”

Brighten Up Our Learning Space!
Funded Jan 12, 2016Dear Families and Friends,
Thank you so much for your generous donations to our project! The students were very excited when I told them the news. They love having their own space on the rug and the new bookcases have helped us to stay organized and allows students to see the covers of the books. This has helped students to get more motivated to read and has enhanced their experience with reading. These new items have really brightened up our classroom!
Your generosity gives the students another way to practice skills in an engaging and fun way. We want to instill a love of reading in our students and having access to good fit books that are visual and organized helps the students. It also helps the students to focus on important instruction when they have their own defined space on the rug for whole group and small group lessons. Thank you again for your dedication to education and students!”

You Can Never Have Too Many Books!
Funded Oct 20, 2014We are so grateful for your donation towards our new books. The students were so excited when I told them the good news. We all cheered when we opened the box! The kids could not wait to start listening to the books read aloud as well as sharing the books with their friends.
We have used the books to boost our character education program. We read the stories after a social skills lesson to reinforce important skills and empathy training. The students can also read the books during Daily 5 and partner book share.
These books have had an important impact on our class and will continue to impact future classes as well. The books are written by some of the most popular children's authors and are books that the students love to read over and over. We will continue to use these books as a way to build our character education and social skills program.”

New Tools for Our Listening Center!
Funded Sep 22, 2014Thank you, thank you, thank you! Because of you our listening centers have come to life! Listen to Reading has become one of the most popular literacy centers. While a group of students is enjoying a book on one of the iPod Nanos, the classroom staff can work more closely with small groups and individual students to either practice phonemic awareness, phonics, reading fluency or reading comprehension.
The class can listen to up to 5 different stories to hear properly modeled fluency which research shows improves reading skills. Most of all the students LOVE listening to everything from Dr. Seuss to Magic Tree House chapter books. I can also allow my emergent readers the opportunity to follow along with the story our class is practicing each week in our readers.
As a teacher, I am always looking for new and innovative ways to keep students interested. The classroom Ipods have been a great addition to our classroom technology. I look forward to continuing to find new ways of enhancing the learning through the use of these amazing tools!
Thank you for your commitment to children and literacy! My students and I are deeply touched.”

Amazing First Graders Need Technology To Succeed!
Funded Apr 6, 2013Thank you for donating to our classroom project! We started using it right away and it has been an amazing new addition to our classroom technology. The laptop has allowed us to add an additional computer station to our center rotations. This has allowed our students to use the technology more frequently to practice math and language arts skills that are essential for 1st graders. The students love using the new laptop!
