Scholars Have Dairies!
Funded Mar 26, 2025Thank you for the donation. It made my students feel elated and enthusiastic to write their own stories. When we received them, I had them choose their color and write their first dairy entry. Donations like these make learning exciting for all my students. Every day, they ask if they will be writing in their journals. I am beyond thankful as their teacher to have access to resources like Donors Choose to provide our Title 1 school with exceptional materials. Now, my students are learning to advocate for themselves to get differential materials by asking me if I can ask for more materials on Donors Choose. Which I will because I want to provide them with engaging materials.”

Smarter with a Watch in STEAM

They were excited and it was the conversation of the day of them learning about their different heart rates when their bodies were calm verses when doing workouts. Funded Nov 23, 2024The donation of clay to our class had an incredibly positive impact on both our creative process and our overall learning experience. Prior to receiving the donation, our ability to work with clay had been limited by the scarcity of resources, which often hindered our ability to fully explore and experiment with sculpting techniques. With the influx of clay, however, we were able to dive deeper into the world of three-dimensional art, transforming abstract ideas into tangible forms. For many of us, working with clay is not just a skill, but a means of self-expression, and the availability of such an essential material opened up a new avenue for us to communicate our thoughts, emotions, and perspectives in a tactile and engaging way. The donation also helped foster a stronger sense of community within the class, as we could share materials, collaborate on projects, and learn from each other's approaches to working with clay. Additionally, the opportunity to work with such a versatile medium allowed us to refine our technical abilities—whether it was learning how to manipulate the clay into smooth, flowing shapes or experimenting with different textures, glazes, and finishes. These hands-on experiences were invaluable in helping us understand the subtleties of texture, form, and proportion, and allowed us to see the direct results of our efforts in real time. Beyond the immediate impact on our artistic development, the donation of clay also broadened our understanding of the importance of resource sharing in a learning environment. It highlighted how access to proper materials can significantly enhance educational experiences, empowering students to reach their full potential. For some students, the donation was a catalyst for discovering a passion for sculpture or ceramics, while for others, it reignited their interest in art-making as a whole. Moreover, the clay donation not only enriched our personal artistic journeys but also contributed to the overall dynamic of our classroom. It encouraged collaboration, problem-solving, and creative thinking, while giving us the freedom to take risks and push the boundaries of what we thought was possible. The clay enabled us to experiment with various forms, from small, intricate figurines to larger, more complex sculptures, and through this process, we learned the importance of patience, persistence, and attention to detail.
