Funded Aug 12, 2024Thanks to your generous support, the huge rug with smiley faces has really brightened up our classroom! My first graders love gathering on it during storytime, where they sit comfortably and share their thoughts about the books we're reading. One memorable moment was when we explored a story about encouragement, and the kids animatedly discussed ways to encourage others while sitting on the rug. It's become a favorite spot for learning and connection!
When the students first saw the new rug, they were thrilled! They jumped up and down with excitement, eager to sit on the smiley faces. It has truly become a special space for creativity and teamwork in our classroom!”

Funded Aug 7, 2024In our classroom, my first graders are really getting hands-on with their learning by using math manipulatives like blocks and counters. These tools make abstract concepts more concrete, allowing them to visualize and physically manipulate numbers during lessons. Whether they're grouping items to understand addition or sorting objects to grasp simple counting, the manipulatives spark their curiosity and make math fun. I often see their faces light up when they realize they can actually "see" the math problems they're solving, which helps build their confidence and understanding.
Along with math manipulatives, we also incorporate decodable texts to enhance their reading skills. These texts are perfect for young learners, as they contain simple vocabulary that matches their phonics knowledge. As they practice reading aloud, I see them becoming more fluent and gaining a love for stories. Additionally, we use various classroom supplies like whiteboards and markers during group activities, allowing students to write, draw, and share their thinking in real time. This combination of hands-on materials and engaging texts creates a dynamic learning environment where my first graders are developing essential skills in math and literacy while having fun together!”

Funded Dec 13, 2023In our crochet club, my students absolutely loved learning to create beautiful patterns with yarn and hooks! Each meeting turned into a cozy gathering where they not only honed their crochet skills but also built strong friendships. As they taught each other different stitches and cheered on one another's progress, you could sense the camaraderie growing. It was heartwarming to see them patiently help each other untangle knots or figure out tricky designs, which really boosted their teamwork and communication skills. Plus, the repetitive motions of crocheting helped them develop their fine motor skills, enhancing their hand-eye coordination in a fun and engaging way. Overall, the club became a special space where creativity flourished, and lasting bonds were formed!”

Focused Learning Space
Funded Aug 25, 2023At the kidney table, my third grade students really came alive! You could see the excitement in their eyes as they gathered around, ready to dive into group activities. The table's unique shape made it super easy for everyone to see and hear each other, which encouraged even the shyest kids to join in the conversation. They seemed to thrive in that close-knit setting, happily sharing their thoughts and bouncing ideas off one another. It was amazing to watch them collaborate, laugh, and support each other as they tackled various tasks together.
Not only did they enjoy working at the kidney table, but I also noticed how much they benefited from it. With the smaller group size, I was able to tailor my instruction to meet each student's needs, which made a real difference in their learning. They became more confident as they solved problems together, and I saw their teamwork skills grow tremendously. It was heartwarming to see them take turns, listen to one another, and celebrate each other's successes. Overall, the kidney table turned out to be a wonderful space for learning and connection, helping my students not just academically but socially as well!”

First Year Teacher Supplies Kick-Off
Funded Jun 12, 2023The impact of back-to-school supplies in a classroom, particularly in high-need areas, cannot be overstated. These supplies play a crucial role in creating an equitable learning environment, leveling the playing field for all students regardless of their socioeconomic backgrounds. In high-need areas where resources are often scarce, students may lack basic supplies like notebooks, pencils, erasers, and even backpacks. The absence of these seemingly small items can hinder my student's ability to engage fully in the learning process and diminish their self-esteem.
When classrooms are equipped with an ample supply of materials, it fosters a sense of belonging and readiness to learn among students. Having their own set of supplies empowers students, enabling them to participate actively in lessons, complete assignments with confidence, and organize their work effectively. Moreover, the presence of sufficient supplies signals to students that their education is valued, enhancing their motivation to attend school and excel academically. Additionally, I as a teacher have benefited from having a well-stocked classroom because it allows me to focus more on teaching and worry less about whether every student has the necessary tools.
I know that the impact these supplies have already had on my classroom have created a welcoming and safe space.”
