Invested Scholars Choose Their Seating
Funded Mar 13, 2018Upon hearing that our entire project was funded, my students jumped up and yelled from excitement! Thank you for funding this project and giving them the opportunity to further their love for reading. Not only will this boost their love to learn about the world but it will also help promote the importance of student voice within our classroom. Thank you again from our classroom family!!”
With gratitude,

This classroom project was brought to life by The First Million Fund and 8 other donors.Picture Perfect
Funded Sep 3, 2014Receiving the classroom gifts were a great surprise for my students! My students love to read and they get excited with every new book that we receive for our classroom library, as well as any new classroom items. I am very fortunate to have a classroom full of students that truly appreciates acts of kindness and values their education. They were amazed by the document camera and it's many uses to the news that they are able to learn about from their Time For Kids magazines.
We use the document camera everyday! It is the classroom's favorite item to use when we are learning. The document camera is especially helpful when I am introducing a new topic in the classroom. It also helps my students stay on the same page that I am. My students have journals where they write their notes for every subject area and when I use the camera, I have all the students following me. When I do a similar activity and I am not using the camera, I have (on average) 5 kids that are not able to follow me. Students are not readily available to non-fiction text and Time For Kids magazines has changed this in our classroom. We use the magazine to practice non-fiction text features and to learn about current events and important world leaders.
We have a data-driven culture in our classroom and both of these resources motivates them to do more in class. We have a data wall in the classroom and when students receive an 85% or above, they get to add a piece to our class data wall. We are halfway there to filling out our data wall and since the arrival of the document camera, there has been a boost of students who have been able to add data pieces to the wall. Students are also more responsible with their journal and note-taking abilities. I have noticed a shift in compliance and in study habits since we have received our gifts.
Thank you again for giving my students resources that help them strive for more learning opportunities. These items have been extremely helpful this year. Due to the academic gains that I have witnessed first-hand, I am pushing the rest of my grade level to create their own Donor's Choose Project.”
