  • Kiddies Wobble But They Don't Fall Down

    Funded Nov 18, 2016

Thank you so much for providing wobble chairs and clipboards for my classroom. My students love the chairs so much and eagerly await the day they get to use a chair. Since I only got six to see how the kids would like them, I have a rotating schedule so students get to use the chairs once a week. My students are able to move on the chair and it helps them focus in class better. My students love the chairs so much, that they will take the chair all around the room with them the day they get to use them. It will go to the computer table, the reading group table and over by a partner. They just don't want to part with the chairs.

The clipboards have also enabled my kids to freedom to move around the room and find a work place that best fits their needs for the moment. Sometimes a classmate is irritating them, so they grab a clipboard and move somewhere else. Sometimes they can't see something well, so they grab a clipboard and move where they can see. It also makes group work much easier for the students. Everyone in the group grabs a clipboard and they are able to find somewhere away from others to work on the task at hand. My students use the clipboards multiple times every day.

Thank you again for your generosity. Providing these materials really makes my students enjoy learning so much more and I find they are much more productive now.”

    With gratitude,

  • Read Me A Story!

    Funded Mar 9, 2016

My students have been excited to use the listening center ever since it arrived. The old listening center wasn't wireless, and so when a group would be huddled around the center, the cord would come unattached and blare the story out into the classroom disrupting the other students and my reading groups. This new listening center is also fantastic because I can have students sitting at their own desks with a book and they can still hear the story perfectly well. The old listening center forced the kids to sit in a group on the floor huddled around the CD player. This allowed the kids to lose focus or to be annoyed by someone getting into their space. All of that is now eliminated. Another benefit to this new center is I can send things through bluetooth to the player and have that go out wirelessly over the headphones. This means we have more access to digital libraries through the computer and are able to make better use of technology. Thank you for making such a difference in my classroom.”

  • Literacy Using Technology

    Funded Feb 11, 2016

The iPad you provided for my class as well as the VGA cord so I could hook it up to the digital projector allows kids exposure to technology daily. We use the iPad to access the Capstone Digital Library. Students are able to log into the library and read and listen to books at the same time. Students are also able to use the iPad to use applications that help them practice language standards as well as math. The VGA cable allows me to plug in the iPad to the projector so the whole class can see how to use an application or can all listen and follow along with a book from the digital library.

Getting to use an iPad is very exciting for my students. They feel "cutting edge" that they are practicing reading and math skills on a device that they see on television in ads and t.v. shows and feel a part of the culture, even if they don't access to a device at home.

Thank you again for supporting our classroom the kids are excited to use the materials.”

  • Bouncing to Learn

    Funded May 20, 2015

My students have been so excited about these bouncy bands. Over the years they feel that teachers have limited how much they can move around and this made it hard for them to learn. As one student said, "You are so smart Miss Prue that you have a way for us to move around and still get out work done!"

My students use these bands to rest their feet when they are tired of having them on the floor. I also see my students bouncing their feet on the bands or moving the band back and forth as I teach out loud, or as I have them work at their desks silently.

As a result of the bands being on the desk, I have noticed my students focus a lot better. My students are better able to complete their assignments and tests. I also notice my kids get out of their seats a lot less and are able to concentrate on things a lot longer than in the past.”

  • Time for Reading

    Funded Nov 30, 2014

My students have been so excited to read the magazines each since they have arrived. I hand them out for silent reading or buddy reading times. They get so drawn into the colorful articles and love how the news is current and interesting to them. After they read the articles, we have class discussion and then use the teacher resources to improve our reading comprehension skills. Having the additional resources allows me to extend their excitement by showing them video clips about the topics they see in the articles.

When we started studying Kenya for multicultural night, one of the articles in the magazine was about lions in Kenya. Students were easily able to draw connections from the article and apply it to the knowledge they were gaining about Kenya. A few weeks later we read an article about the Time Magazine person of the year: Malala Yousafzai. They were shocked to learn even children could earn such a prestigious prize like the Nobel Peace Price for changing the world. I had students who commented it made them want to think of a way to change the world themselves.

Thank you again for providing my class with such an outstanding resource. When they see me with the pack in my hands when I return from lunch, they always beg me to hand them out immediately. I know this will impact my students this year and into the future.”

  • Becoming A Bookworm

    Funded Nov 29, 2013

Thank you so much for donating to my classroom. My students have loved selecting books to put in their book bags and regularly ask me, "Can I read?" Every two weeks I collect the books from the students and lay them out around the room so the kids can take a book walk. After walking around and looking at the books, they get to pick out five of them to place in their book bags and read for the next two weeks. Every time they choose the new books they beg me for time to read. I also receive many requests to take the book bags home so they can read overnight or over the weekend.

Since I have been able to implement the book bags in my classroom, students have been reading more and this is improving their reading skills. I know this enthusiasm for reading will have long lasting implications.”

  • A Magical Trip Through Your Imagination

    Funded Mar 1, 2013

This letter is to show you appreciation for the donation of a library of books on cd for my class. Every day my class has reading centers while students have reading groups. My class LOVES the listening center but I was unable to put it out every week because we didn't have enough audio recorded books with the matching literature. Now that I have this newly donated audio library my class will not only get listening center every week, they now are able to have their own individual center. The center in the past involved a CD player with a headphone distributor and four kids would share one book and listen at the same time. Now I have enough books that four children can listen to four different books at the same time.

Now that the materials have arrived and have been set up, the listening center is the most popular one in my room. With school funds in my district being cut so severely by the economic down turn in Nevada, my students would never have received these materials without your generous donations. Thank you so much for supporting schools as this really means you are supporting our future leaders!”

  • Let's Make A Story!

    Funded Mar 14, 2009

I am very thankful for donors like you. Your generous donation has helped supply my classroom with usable technology for my students. Many of my students have not had a lot of motivation to be successful in school. This technology is allowing me to motivate these students by creating interest in photography and using computers to draft stories in a new and innovative way. I see the excitement of my students whenever I discuss the upcoming project.

In today's current economic hardships, there is not a lot of funding available for these valuable resources. Thank you so much for opening up your hearts and donating materials to tomorrow's future citizens.”
