  • Becoming Brainiacs With BrainPoP and Flocabulary!

    Funded Oct 26, 2022

Thank you for providing a Brainpop Jr and Flocabulary memberships for my class. I have been able to use the Brainpop Jr videos to help introduce skills in math like fractions and division and reading skills like main idea and decoding words. Flocabulary has been incredible for helping my students build their academic vocabulary. Many of my students are English Language learners and have difficulty remembering academic vocabulary. The Flocabulary videos have engaging and catchy songs and I often see my students singing along. Flocabulary has helped my students better remember topics like text features and point of view and practice their multiplication and division facts in a fun way. Students are able to see the concepts taught in a way that is is engaging and interesting. This has helped my students better understand these concepts. I have also found that the students in my class are retaining the information taught in these videos better than when I talk and model it myself! Thank you so much for providing these digital resources for my students. They are really benefitting from them!”

  • Holidays Around the World!

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

Our students had so much fun learning about different holidays around the world. Having these dreidels and chocolate gelt helped the students experience a Hanukkah tradition first hand. The different students loved playing the dreidel game, and even worked together to help everyone have a turn winning. When they were handed their little bag of chocolate gelt at the end, they were so excited. I had a few students who set aside a chocolate coin, and tried to give me one. They wanted me to experience the joy too. Thank you so much for providing such a fun, hands-on activity. I know this activity will remain in their memories a long time!”

  • Do You Hear What I Hear?

    Funded Oct 18, 2022

My students are blessed to have 1:1 Chromebooks. This means each student in my room uses a Chromebook each day, and they do not have to share it with anyone else. We use the Chromebooks to reinforce skills we have learned in class. We use the Chromebooks to access our reading curriculum, and we also use them to access MyOn (a digital library of books that students can read or have read to them). With these devices, students have the ability to receive differentiated supports to help make them more successful in reading and math. However without the use of headphones, they can't access these supports. Your generous donations helped get a pair of headphones into the hands of each of my students.

Now that my students have had these headphones, I have seen such enthusiasm for listening to books. I am constantly asked, "May I use MyOn?". My students are primarily English Language Learners, and struggle with how to pronounce English words and understand the English vocabulary. Regularly listening to books helps expose my students to how reading should sound and also allows them to hear words in context. This repeated exposure to English vocabulary words has helped my students increase their reading comprehension. At the start of the year my class average reading comprehension grade equivalent was 2:3. A few weeks ago I retested the class and the class average grade level equivalent has increased to 3.5. That is more than a years growth in less than a year. I credit this to the headphones.

Thank you again for your amazing generosity and thinking of my students. They have parents who do not have the financial means to provide such a basic, necessary supply.”

  • Learning to Thrive!

    Funded Jun 30, 2022

My students have really enjoyed working through the therapy games and social emotional activities I received with this project. Students have returned to classrooms unable to regulate emotions and have very few coping strategies when things don't go their way. Being able to use these materials with them is helping them be more successful in the classroom. I have also been able to do a small group with my students who are struggling with ADHD in the classroom. We have been working through the activity book so they can learn about the strengths and challenges of the condition. I know these materials are really going to help my students and into the future.”

  • Concrete Math for an Abstract World!

    Funded Feb 14, 2022

My students have been loving the, "Pop to Win" games. These games helped my students review for the high stakes math assessment (SBAC Test) that they took last spring. My students were all highly engaged, and so excited when they got the correct answer on the review questions.

My students also really enjoyed the various number lines. They found it much easier split up a line into fractional pieces and name the fractions. They also used these number lines to compare numbers, because the number lines were they same length. My students felt they were successful with learning the fractions standards because of these tools.

My students also loved using the counters. These counters helped them turn abstract numbers in a word problem into a concrete item. This helped them determine whether they were adding, subtracting multiplying or dividing. It also assisted with the math computation.”

  • Being A Bookworm!

    Funded Sep 6, 2021

Thank you so much for donating to my classroom. My students have loved selecting books to put in their book bags and regularly ask me, "Can I read?" Every morning students select three books to read from my library. When they choose from the new books, they beg me for time to read. I also receive many requests to take the book bags home so they can read overnight or over the weekend.

Since I have been able to add more books into my classroom library, students have been reading more and this is improving their reading skills. I know this enthusiasm for reading will have long lasting implications.”

  • Recess Reimagined

    Funded May 12, 2021

My students have been so excited about these recess toys. Since the pandemic has occurred, recess completely changed with students not having access to playground equipment. Each day I take them out for recess, students are so excited to get into the equipment bag to get fun items to play with outside. My students regularly beg to be the student to take our our playground equipment.

As a result of the playground equipment, I have noticed my students focus a lot better in class. After being out of school for over a year, many of my students lack stamina to focus on learning in class. Being able to burn off energy outside helps my students better able to complete their assignments and tests. I also notice my kids get out of their seats a lot less and are able to concentrate on things a lot longer than in the past.

Another benefit of the playground equipment is students have toys to use with each other. This allows my students to experience social interaction, which is such an important part of the school experience. Students were lacking social interaction while out with distance learning, so being able to play with other kids their age is so important for their developmental growth and mental health.”
