Do You Hear What I Hear?
Funded Sep 18, 2024Our students are blessed to have 1:1 Chromebooks. This means each student uses a Chromebook each day, and they do not have to share it with anyone else. Chromebooks are used to reinforce skills learned in class. We use the Chromebooks to access our reading, math and science curriculum, and we also use them to access MyOn (a digital library of books that students can read or have read to them). With these devices, students have the ability to receive differentiated supports to help make them more successful in reading and math. However without the use of headphones, they can't access these supports. Your generous donations helped get a pair of headphones into the hands of our students.
Thank you again for your amazing generosity and thinking of my students. They have parents who do not have the financial means to provide such a basic, necessary supply.”

Funded Feb 8, 2024Thank you so much for contributing to these math manipulatives for my students. We had a lesson where students worked with partners to develop the conceptual understanding behind equivalent fractions on a number line. Because students were able to use premade/pre-sectioned number lines with the magnet fraction strips, they were able to better see how they could create and graph fractions on number lines.
Using their knowledge of graphing fractions on number lines made it very concrete and clear whether fractions were equal, or one was greater than the other. Fractions are such an abstract concept and any way a teacher can make it concrete brings the teaching and learning alive for the students. Thank you again for giving my students the abililty to work with hands-on manipulatives to learn these critical concepts.”

Getting Rid of the Wiggles!
Funded Nov 5, 2023My students have been so excited about these floor chairs and fidget tools. Over the years they feel that teachers have limited how much they can move around and this made it hard for my students to learn. As one student said, "You are so smart Miss Prue that you have a way for us to move around and still get out work done!"
When I am teaching a lesson and they fill the need to do something with their hands, they grab a fidget and silently use the tool instead of tapping a pencil or some other distracting behavior.
As a result of the fidget tools, I have noticed my students focus a lot better. My students are better able to complete their assignments and tests. I also notice my kids get out of their seats a lot less and are able to concentrate on things a lot longer than in the past.”

Learning to Read!
Funded Oct 17, 2023My students are in LOVE with the new flexible seating chairs. They are each eager to have a turn to sit on the floor in the comfy chair with a back. This has made silent reading and partner work more appealing to my students. They also love the new pencil sharpener. Sharpening pencils every morning is now fast and efficient. The new sharpener doesn't eat up the whole pencil and the point remains strong a good little while.
My students have also been enjoying the sensory tools. They are especially in love with the chewing necklaces. I have students who are using them throughout the day and beg me to let them take them to specials so they can better focus. They also loved the squishies. These are something that helps the student stim quietly without it being disruptive and then my students can focus.”

Funded Oct 12, 2023My students have been loving the new stapler this project provided to them. They have been learning the correct way to staple a paper and the stapler is holding up beautifully to the accidental abuse the learning students put it through. My students have also enjoyed having the bright colored p aper to use in their learning notebooks. I have been able to help the students differentiate the different functions of words in sentences.
My students have also very much enjoyed the Dum Dum lollipops for rewards. Dum Dum lollipops are the perfect prize because they don't contain any of the common allergens. These Dum Dums really motivate my students.”

Funded Aug 30, 2023Being a struggling reader is embarrassing for a fourth grader. I have three students who really struggle with reading and at the beginning of the year they declared they hated it. I have learned from Science of Reading training that many students who struggle with reading have deficits with phonemic awareness skills. I quickly learned these three students struggle with speaking and hearing the sound phonemes in the English language. Using these phonemic awareness materials has really helped my struggling readers grasp the critical foundational skills necessary to read. I am really seeing more enthusiasm and confidence with reading.”

Readers Need Phonics
Funded Sep 11, 2023These phonics games have been a fun and motivating way for my three lowest readers to practice the critical phonics skills they are lacking. One of these students is new to the U.S. and isn't literate in his home language. This makes learning to read in English more difficult for him. Having the phonics games so he can practice making the sounds of the English phonemes is helping him learn the correlation between the phonemes and graphemes he needs to write.
The other two students struggle with hearing sounds and sounding out words. Making reading fun instead of hard work. I am noticing reading improvements in all three students since using these materials!”

Funded Aug 2, 2023Thank you so much for funding this project. These stools make it possible for my students to sit comfortably at the kidney table for reading groups. These stools also allow my students to sit around the room by partners when doing partner work. They are light weight and easy to move around. These stools also allow my students to ability to move when a classmate is bothering them at there table group.
The headphones have been key in allowing my students to work on computer programs. Edmentum's Exact Path has videos that teach students the skills they are missing so they can successfully achieving grade level content standards. These headphones are sturdy and comfortable.”

Funded May 10, 2023My students are loving being able to find books they are interested in because of these book bins. Each book bin holds a different series of books, or a set of books on one theme. I was also able to create bins of books at particular reading levels in AR so students can easily find books that interest them.
Having these book bins has really helped me create a classroom library to be envied. I have a mixture of current fiction as well as well loved classics. My students are always eager for silent reading now, and disappointed when it gets canceled. Thank you again so much for supporting this project.”

Let's Make It a Happy Birthday!
Funded Aug 24, 2023Thank you so much for providing birthday gift supplies for each student in my classroom. Because of your generous donations I was able to give each student a bubble wand, a galaxy slime, a wind-up butterfly toy and some candy. Each student in my room will have the opportunity to feel special at least one day of the year. I fill up a gift bag with the materials and the class sings happy birthday for whomever's special day it is. The items I chose were selected so my students could learn through play. These items are fun, but also teach scientific concepts through inquiry.”
