Hungry Hearts for Learning
Funded Dec 31, 2023I cannot think of a better way to end this year than expressing my gratitude. Thanks to your generous donation my students will no longer go through the day with rumbling tummies and can better focus on their studies. Thank you for helping me battle food insecurity within my classroom you are angels!”

Funded Mar 2, 2023By donating multicultural books you opened the world for each of my students. Each skin color, creed, race, religion, country and belief was represented and my students felt seen.
Each of them lit up like a Christmas tree upon encountering a book that reminded them of their own experience. The ability of books to connect and inspire us to learn about ourselves and the world around us is one that continues to leave me in awe. I want to thank each of you for opening their eyes to the world in a way that didn't require them to leave the room.”

Funded Jan 6, 2023Thank you for providing my students the opportunity in which to utilize books as mirrors and windows. Mirrors to see their own experiences reflected in all their vibrance, and windows to look into the experiences that might not be their own.
I cannot begin to stress the importance of literacy, especially at a high needs low income campus such as my own. I thank you for your generosity and the light it brought into my classroom to see each student with a book in their hand that they truly resonated with and created a bond.”

Funded Dec 6, 2022My students were fueled not only by the snacks provided but by your display of kindness and generosity. It would break my heart each time my students would mention their struggles with food insecurity at home. I strive each day to make my classroom a safe space where my students are free from the burdens and hurdles they battle outside of school. In being able to do something as simple as provide them some sustenance between meals I was able to take one weight off their string albeit tiny shoulders. Thank you!”

Funded Dec 6, 2022My students come from mostly underserved communities in which the majority of them live in poverty and food insecurity hubs. Their parents, families, and grown ups work hard and sometimes have just enough to break even. This past holiday with your generous help, I was able to act as a holiday fairy and spread cheer to each of my 75 students right before winter break.
The look of utter joy on their faces as they received a gift bag filled with goodies like Play-doh, a coloring book, socks, popcorn, and a drawing tablet let me know that their hearts were full.
Maybe we could not ensure each student had everything they needed at home, but we did ensure no child went without a gift to open this holiday season in classroom 107! Thank you for your generosity and love!”

Funded Dec 10, 2021I cannot begin to describe the grand impact each of your donations made for each of my students. Many of my students come from low income households in which food insecurity is a constant battle they face, more so after the pandemic began in which many of their household incomes decreased due to the availability of work.
What may seem like such a simple thing as giving them a snack, made the world of difference in their education. The lack of a rumbling tummy was one less thing for each of them to worry about as they came to school each day ready to learn. They never had to worry about whether they'd be too hungry to sit through the lesson because having a snack pantry became a safe haven for each of them. My most sincere thanks to each of you who made this possible.”

Funded Nov 30, 2021I cannot begin to express the impact this new inclusivity library has made in my teaching, but like the ELA teacher I am, I will strive to put forth my emotion into words. Growing up, I didn't see many books that had anyone that looked like me on the cover. Me : a first generation Mexican immigrant with brown skin who spoke Spanish at home only and English everywhere else, didn't feel like she had an identity. I always felt like I straddled the line between being neither here nor there. It was not until adulthood that I reconnected with my roots and saw the power of my native tongue and the impact of culture and heritage. When I became an educator, I knew it was important to me that my students have access to books that acted as mirrors and reflected someone who looked like them.
In the pages of these books live not only ink and paper but the stories of my students that are differently abled, Hispanic American, Native American, Asian American and African American heritage. I've seen many of my students who struggle with sustained reading pick up a book from this inclusivity library because they saw someone that looked like them.
These books allow me to teach my students just how diverse we are in this classroom and how despite these differences, how all are welcome.”
