  • In Need of an iPad

    Funded Sep 15, 2014

First, let me just say that getting the iPad has been such a blessing for me this school year. I had been writing grants to get one for a long time and didn't have any luck.

I have been using it every single day to take attendance, since the computer in my class is really slow. I also use it to play the stories of the week so my students can follow along in their anthologies. But the highlight of the iPad usage comes on Fridays. I hook it up to my document reader and my students can read aloud stories and play educational games. They are so excited about this. The educational games are helping them acquire more vocabulary, read fluently, and solve basic math problems with accuracy. They don't even realize they are learning.

There are no words to describe my students' happy faces when they get to use the iPad. To some of them, it is a first experience. I'm glad they are practicing how to use the iPad because the following year they will be expected to take the state test on an iPad.

Thank you so much for your kind donation. It has really made a huge difference in my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Paiz-Perez

  • Pencils, Pencils, And More Pencils

    Funded Aug 28, 2013

First of all, thank you very much for your kind donation. My students and I are thrilled to have new pencils, erasers, and a top of the line pencil sharpener. They were excited when I opened the box in front of them.

Every morning my students have 2 sharpened pencils for the day. If they need more pencils, there are extra in a container. There's no need to worry about running out or running to the office to sharpen their pencils anymore.

I know it doesn't sound like a big deal. But really, having an electric sharpener in the classroom saves me time, and makes my students feel free to write, draw, and do math without worrying about running out of lead. Thank you again, for making a second grade classroom very happy.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Paiz-Perez

  • Art Supplies

    Funded Dec 15, 2011

I want to thank you so much for all the wonderful Art supplies that we received. Your generosity means so much to me because I am able to provide my students different media to create Art.

My students were so excited to see the glitter paints, the confetti glue, the paintbrushes, the watercolors, the googly eyes, and the markers. We have already used some of the things, as you will be able to see in the pictures. They loved painting a Valentine's Day heart and can't wait to work with their new watercolors.

Please know that we are eternally grateful for your kind donation. It is always so wonderful to know there are still kind people out in the world.”

    With gratitude,

  • In Need of a New Rug

    Funded Jan 4, 2012

I want to thank you for your kind donation. My classroom rug arrived after the Holiday break bringing joy to all of us. My students were so excited to have a brand new rug to sit on. What a difference it makes in my classroom! Now they are so eager to sit on the rug. They know that they are sitting on a clean rug. And that's important to me. The classroom looks bright and clean too.

The rug is so useful in my classroom. I use it for Read-Alouds, for mini Math lessons, for Pair-Share, and many other important activities.

Please know that we are forever grateful for your generosity. It's people like you that help change the world.”

  • Help Us Become Paleontologists!

    Funded Feb 24, 2011

I can't begin to thank you for all the 'fossils' materials we got through Donors Choose. My students were extremely excited when all they arrived. They couldn't wait to use them. Their happy faces are a testament to this fact.

Thanks to your donation we all became paleontologists. The materials arrived right at the start of the fossils unit in the Open Court Reading Program. It was perfect. We received, a book with a CD about dinosaurs, a few Dino Dig boxes, and dinosaur rubbing plates. My students had such a great time using all these materials. And all of them fit in perfectly with what they were learning. Their favorite was the rubbing plates. They couldn't put them down. They were able to rub 6 different dinosaurs.

I appreciate your kind donation. Thank you for making a huge difference in the way my students learned about fossils this year.”

  • Butterflies in the Classroom

    Funded Dec 7, 2010

Thank you so much for helping my students have their own painted-lady caterpillar for our Life Cycle Unit. They are loving the transformation and are very motivated to study everything about the butterflies.

Everyday they are able to hold their own container and observe the changes that each caterpillar has gone through. It is so much better than just having one single container for the whole class to see. This way, they take ownership and are very careful when they handle their own container.

It is wonderful to see their excited faces as they observe their caterpillar. What a wonderful way to teach Science! Thanks to people like you my students are doing hands-on Science activities.”

  • Can You Hear Me Now?

    Funded Dec 7, 2010

I want to thank you for the kind donation of a wireless microphone. It was a blessing and a surprise to hear that my proposal had been funded. My students got really excited when I opened the box in front of them. Now all they want to do is use it to read their own writing or read a book. They love to hear their own voices.

With this wireless microphone my students will also be able to hear my lessons better and focus only on my voice and not on outside noise. On a regular basis we are interrupted with playground noise and the AC/heater unit noise. I realized this week that I can use it outside when we go out to Physical Education as well.

What a great idea the wireless microphone is! With a big class of second graders it comes in really handy. Thank you for changing my classroom! We truly appreciate your kindness.

  • Desperately Seeking a PC Laptop

    Funded Aug 30, 2010

I want to thank you so much for the wonderful gift of having my own laptop to use in my classroom. To get it right at the beginning of the year was absolutely amazing.

My lessons have been so much interesting. I use it for almost every subject, especially for Math. Our Math Program is very high-tech and each lesson begins with a short cartoon explanation of the concept to be learned. I put the DVD in the laptop and watch the students be amazed and tuned in to the lesson. It is fun and gets my students motivated to learn when they see the mini-lesson.

I also use it for games, Word documents, and online websites. I have it set up in the middle of the classroom where it's hooked up to a projector ready to use at any time.

Your generosity completely changed my approach to teaching this year. I feel that my students are very lucky to experience learning through different methods. Thank you again for everything you do for California students. ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Paiz-Perez

  • Being Green with Lapboards

    Funded Aug 30, 2010

I want to truly thank you for your thoughtful donation. It was exciting to hear that all California projects were funded on the very first day I went back to work. Starting out the new year with my brand new lapboards was a blessing.

I started using the lapboards and my students are thrilled to write on them with their special markers. They also love to have their own board erasers. I use them for all kinds of lessons, especially for dictation and Mathematics. They are a time saver and they make our classroom more 'earth friendly' because we use less paper. I also love the fact that my students are so motivated to use them.

Thank you again for believing in education and for helping California classrooms. These are tough times for education but with people and organizations like you, we can make a difference. ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Paiz-Perez

  • Name Labels and Privacy Please

    Funded Feb 12, 2010

I want to thank all the donors that were kind enough to help fund my proposal. My students were so excited when I received the box with the privacy partitions and the name labels. They couldn't wait to use them. You can see their happy faces on the pictures I uploaded.

Now when they take tests they get their own private space. And when I take them to dance class they get to wear their own cute name labels. They love them! They fit perfectly and have velcro so they can easily put them on without my help. It's funny how a little thing can brighten the faces of little kids. These two donations have made our lives so much easier.

Thank you so much for your kindness. We truly appreciate it.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Paiz-Perez
