  • Science of Reading Activities to Practice Reading

    Funded Apr 16, 2024

Thank you so much for the gift cards to Teacher's Pay Teachers. I am constantly searching for activities that will help support my students in reading. I use the Science of Reading strategies and now need to purchase items that support the research in teaching reading.

My students use many of the resources I have purchased with the gift cards. I print their activities and then my students use them independently after I have used them in lessons.

I also use many new slides for interactive lessons; all my students can see them as I use them on the Smart Board.

Thank you for helping me get much-needed resources to teach reading.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Olivarez

  • The Science of Reading in the Hands of Children

    Funded Mar 3, 2024

Thank you so much for believing in my students to become readers. Having the hand2mind Little Minds at Work Science of Reading Essentials Toolkit has allowed my students to do many hands-on activities that support the Science of Reading.

I have been on this learning journey of how to help my students become readers. I can teach my students in small groups reading lessons with this kit and then they can practice independently.

These activities are engaging and my students enjoy using them.

    Thank you,

    Ms. Olivarez”

  • Advancing Kindergarten and First Grade Students Through Technolgy

    Funded Oct 31, 2023

Thank you for the Mac Book Pro. It is so fast to upload slides I use with my students, fast to connect to educational games/tests, and it can connect to our Smart board!

Having this laptop has made a difference in not being limited to specific sites and not having to wait for items to download.

Students can easily use the track pad as well as use it for educational platforms.

We are enjoying the gift of being able to connect and learn with current technology!

Now I can have them create illustrations or writings and print them.

I am also creating things for my classroom and flyers for the school and my parents.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Olivarez

  • Color Makes Everything Better

    Funded Oct 31, 2023

Thank you for the EPSON ecotank printer. I have been able to print various activities for the students in color and still have more than enough ink to last several thousand pages more.

The color activities that students use are more engaging in color. I am also able to brighten up our room environment with colored educational images that students refer to.

Overall, having this specific color printer has not limited me in what I can or cannot print for my students.

I look forward to printing student stories and their images, especially their photos in color, and do not hesitate to do it for fear of running out of color. Color does make everything better!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Olivarez

  • Visuals to Support The Science of Reading!

    Funded Oct 11, 2022

Thank you for the Teachers Pay Teachers card. I was able to purchase the slides that go with our reading series, writing, and resources to support the Science of Reading. All these slides are engaging and keep my students focused and learning. We use these on a daily basis and it helps my English Language learners to see the vocabulary image that I am referring to. It has made teaching more engaging and helps me focus on students who still need additional help.

Thank you again for caring for my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Olivarez

  • Workbooks to Help Reduce the Use of Paper

    Funded Nov 10, 2021

Thank you for the workbooks. I wanted to decrease making copies and using paper on a daily basis. Having the workbooks has helped in that tremendously. I don't need to use the time to make copies, instead, I have more time to plan. Also, not having to pass out paper or realize that we are missing a copy is no longer an issue. My students really love the books and get excited to use them.

We have books to practice cutting, practicing letters and numbers as well. We have started with the cutting and letter practice which they will do at home. After winter break we will be using the other workbooks on letter and number writing in class. I can't wait to use these with my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Olivarez

My 21 first graders or firsties as I call them are English language learners who enjoy listening to stories, but also want to read them. They have the potential to be very successful readers if they have more sight word practice and are read to more in English. The majority of my students have parents who do not speak English and do not get read to at home. They mainly get to listen to stories and practice reading words at school only. Our school currently lacks the technology in our primary classrooms that would expose our students to listen to stories online/CD or sight word practice.
