  • ELLs love Roald Dahl!

    Funded May 31, 2013

My students were incredibly excited to have so many interesting fiction books added to our classroom library. Our classroom has a high number of English Language Learners and they have come to love Nate the Great as well as Roald Dahl. Students were asking if they could take a new book every day. Many of them were going home and finishing their first book that same evening. It has definitely made them more motivated and interested in reading.

Our classroom is using the books as part of our reading workshop. Many students are able to use some of these books as leveled books and it has really increased their focus during independent reading. Other students are just interested in the books even though they may not be on their level but it is still encouraging their motivation to improve their reading.

I think this project boosted student learning and it created a buzz around our library. Students instantly were more interested in being a part of the reading community. They started talking about the books with each other and discussing which books they had already read. I know how important it is to love reading and find opportunities to develop that love of reading throughout one's life.”

  • International News Inspires Young Readers

    Funded Dec 29, 2011

Thank you for your generosity. Our class had been using Time For Kids since we first received the issues. The students absolutely love them. Their interest in current events both nationally and internationally has skyrocketed. They can't wait to learn about what's happening all over the world. I have already seen an improvement in their reading and speaking vocabulary. Even the most shy students start to volunteer to participate when the newest issue arrives.

I believe it is so important for students to have a genuine interest in the world around them. Thank you for providing my students an opportunity to access the world's current events at their level. The issues have child friendly topics but also very serious topics covered in a way that makes sense to them.

Again, I can't thank you enough. My students are overjoyed whenever we use the Time For Kids articles in class. They love taking them home and having their own magazines. It has truly had a significant impact on many of students interest in current events and their interest in reading.”

    With gratitude,

  • International News Inspires Young Readers

    Funded Oct 13, 2010

My class and I are so grateful for your generous donation. It is a huge priority of mine to expose my young students to our global world and current events. They absolutely love Time for Kids. It helps them in so many ways.

It helps them to be more socially aware and responsible. The experience of reading a news magazine is a very adult experience and it helps them to be comfortable when they see a news magazine on their own and as they get older. It is also wonderful because they are excited to hear about things all over the world and to see the similarities and differences in different cultures. They begin to become educated about our very diverse yet accessible world.

It is also an incredibly useful tool academically. Reading nonfiction can be very tricky for students who are lacking reading skills. Time for Kids is a natural incentive for all my students so their hesitation with reading seems to be forgotten about. They absorb so much vocabulary and so much language that they begin to use it in everyday conversation.

I thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to use this tool with my students. I know its value as I've seen it in action before. It helps my students to become better readers and better citizens.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mora

  • Growing Readers Yearn for Real News!

    Funded Dec 22, 2009

Thank you so much for your generous donation. As expected, my students absolutely love Time For Kids. The magazine provides them a chance to access the news both nationally and internationally at a level they can understand. Current events has always been woven into our classroom in writing, discussions and Internet research. Some children were already watching the news, reading it online or hearing it from their parents. Now, TFK has given all children a chance to be in the know. It has also validated those children who were already interested and has given them something to discuss with their families.

The vocabulary of all of students has expanded and their interest in and compassion for the world around them has increased greatly. We use Google Earth to visit the places mentioned in the issues. Time For Kids is such a diverse magazine that we travel to different places every time. Last month, we visited Venice and Vancouver. Last week, we visited Chile and then we wound up traveling to other areas in South America and eventually to Central America. The love TFK and why wouldn't they, it's an incredible resource.

I am very thankful as well because I feel it is so important to learn about the world around us at a young age. TFK makes this possible on so many levels. Thank you for your support.”

    Funded Jan 30, 2008

Wow! How wonderful! Thank you so much for your generous donation. I cannot wait to share with our school that we will soon be receiving basketball hoops and basketballs for our recess yard. This is incredibly exciting and I'm sure the students will look forward to getting outside and getting some much needed exercise.

I cannot thank you enough for your generosity and your interest in supporting the public school system. We are incredibly appreciative.

  • Help Support The Daily Use Of Dictionaries - 3rd Grade

    Funded Oct 23, 2007

Thank you so much for your generosity. I am so excited to start working with my students on their dictionary skills. Many of them are somewhat intimidated by the idea of using a dictionary. They are also excited to learn how to use one and all the information that is available in the dictionary.

Thank you again! I can't wait for the dictionaries to arrive. Thank you for supporting the public schools”

  • Yoga in Gym Class for Elementary School

    Funded Dec 31, 2006

Thank you so much for funding this project. My students have been initially exposed to the concept of yoga. They are definitely interested although reluctant as most eight year old would be. I am also excited because these yoga mats can also be used by all the other students in our school as we are a small school on a rotating gym schedule. I appreciate the chance to truly introduce my students to the practice of yoga”
