  • Our Stories Matter

    Funded Mar 7, 2020

Thank you for your generosity, because of your kindness tomorrow I will be able to tell 90 students that new books will be coming to our library. I will be able to tell them that these books are about kids, who are Spanish, Asian and African America kids that look like them. I will be able to show my young girls who wear hijabs, that book in our classroom library will also have a girl their age who wears a hijab. My immigrant students will get to read about other immigrant students and nod their heads in agreement, thinking yes that happened to me too. I know that each donor could have made the decision to use their donation elsewhere, for gas, groceries, a bill etc. but instead you choose to help others and that speaks volumes of the each and every one of you. Thank you, you have changed my life, my student’s life and lives of my future students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Obasa

  • Reading Rocks! (With Engaging Books In Stock!)

    Funded Mar 3, 2020

For years I have contemplated starting a donors choose project and every year I would talk myself out of it with words like I do not know that many people, or I know that the people in my life have tight budgets. What I failed to realize was just how wonderful, caring and generous people can be especially the ones that I am blessed to know. I failed to realize that the smallest steps can help us reach big goals. Tomorrow I get to walk into my classroom and look at my 90 students and say those books that you have been asking for guess what they will be here soon and there are plenty of copies. Thank you, you have changed my life, the lives of my current students and lives of future students with your thoughtful gift!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Obasa

3 classes, 90 students and the one book they all want. Imagine wanting something and having to wait in a line with 89 people in front of you. This is the problem my students face daily. According to my students, they love that our class library has so many books but they hate that there is only one copy of the book they have their heart set on. Students wait up to a month to have a book they are excited to read in their hands, but in the meantime, they read without enthusiasm or they simply do not read. This is affecting student reading levels and more importantly their love of reading. That is where you come in. This project will allow me to buy multiple copies of books that kids desire to read. Everyone has that book that sticks with them and makes them love reading. Help my students find this book faster by supporting this project.
