Capturing Creativity and Inspiring Young Minds
Funded May 12, 2019Thank you so much for your unmatched generosity in helping provide my students with the materials they needed to succeed! When the boxes full of supplies entered our room, the busy classroom halted. The students were curious. They knew materials were coming in, but they didn't know all the details. When I opened the boxes and held up the generous donations— such as the headphones to be used in the technology center, the decorations for the classroom, the number line, the word wall letters, and the name tags for the desks, the students couldn't contain their glee. They excitedly applauded.
The students are still so grateful. One student couldn't help but ask several times, 'This is the stuff that the donors paid for?' As a class we discussed the importance of donations and how the students' parents could help Ms. Nnebe buy supplies for the classroom. This particular child's mother was very generous and it was clear that her example touched her son. He was keenly aware of the help he and his family were able to provide the classroom and was proud. He also took great care of the materials. In fact, all the students were careful to treat the materials with respect. If headphone strings were hanging from the laptops, without me having to ask, a student wrapped them up and tucked them in the desk. If a new word was mentioned in class, students asked for it to be added to the word wall. Many students asked countless times to help put up the class decorations. In essence, they were proud. They were proud of their classroom.
With the rough start to the school year, seeing the students light up and take pride in and responsibility for their classroom, making sure it looked neat and their desks were cleaned before leaving the room, touched me tremendously. Their behavior greatly improved as well as their work. Learning was more enjoyable in their new, warm, and supplied atmosphere. Thank you again for helping make this school year a success.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Nnebe
