Transitional Kindergarten - Centers for Success
Funded Feb 15, 2013Thank you so much for your kind donation to our class project. Our new transitional kindergarten program has allowed our younger students the luxury of spending two years in kindergarten to lay the foundations for learning for life. With your help, our TK and K students have enjoyed fun, exciting materials which have supported their early days in school.
With the Lakeshore Instant Learning Centers in Language Arts, Math and Science, I have been able to set up successful centers where the students have learned through a variety of hands-on manipulatives. These learning centers have fostered independence for learning, as well as opportunities for developing social skills. Academic concepts were introduced and practiced.
We also benefited from the Lakeshore Storytelling kits, which allowed the students to develop oral language and comprehension skills. Our drying rack has proved to be invaluable! The additional art materials, like the number and letter sponges, helped develop fine motor skills as well as practice concepts in literacy and numeracy.
By donating to our project, you provided our students with opportunities learning a variety of skills and concepts through hands-on activities. You helped make the early years for our students fun and meaningful. I hope, together we have developed a love for lifelong learning!”

Ms. Munro

Funded Sep 12, 2012This is just a small token of my gratitude for your generous donation to my classroom. The classroom carpet that you helped donate has helped my students every single day. We use the carpet for both whole group and small group instruction for various lessons and activities. Our previous carpet was disgusting and very unhealthy for young children to sit on. Students now have a clean and colorful carpet on which they can sit and be comfortable while engaged in learning.
Our school is currently facing a budget shortfall, so without your help my students would never have had this vital resource. For Kindergarten children who spend the majority of their school day learning on the carpet, it is vital that they have a soft, comfortable, and colorful carpet on which to sit.
Without generous donors like you, thousands of classrooms In the United States would go without!”

Funded Mar 14, 2012Our new Sony tablet arrived a few weeks ago, and it has been put to excellent use each day! We are so excited to be able to have a working tablet in the hands of our students. Almost every student had the same exclamation: "This is so fast!" They couldn't believe how much easier it was to use than the desktop computers.
Your generosity has made it possible for the students to experience touch screen technology. They are also experiencing apps which address all areas of the curriculum, from phonics to basic math skills, and from Vincent Van Gogh to world maps. We are also taking advantage of the photo and video feature, taking pictures of one another to record our learning. It is an excellent opportunity for the students to have options for learning in the classroom.
Please know that your support is greatly appreciated, especially in our underfunded and economically difficult times. ”

Developing a Love of Literature Through Wordless Books
Funded Jan 31, 2012Since our books arrived a few weeks ago there has been a buzz of excitement in the classroom. Once the students got over the initial shock of a book without words, they have been so keen and eager to investigate each page of each book.
The sets of wordless books have give me the opportunity to teach reading skills and strategies without being bogged down by text. The students are "reading" the story fluently using their own words and imagination. They are identifying main idea and details, setting, characters and plot. I am seeing they are able to transfer these skills to other texts. We have also had an opportunity to use the books as an inspiration for creative writing.
Thank you so much for allowing my students this experience. Your kindness and generosity means so much.
