My students truly need you to make a difference in their overall classroom experience. Deep in Texas, I have the esteemed privilege of teaching over 150 college-bound students. Although many of them are freshmen in high school, college is on the forefront of their minds. The reality is that many of them may not have the opportunity to attend college due to the lack of resources at our school that are necessary to attain a quality education. I work at a Title I school, where at least 95% of the students are considered "at-risk" of being unsuccessful and receive free or reduced school lunch. Being raised in poverty is difficult enough for my students. They come to school to escape the harsh realities of their home lives. But it is difficult for them to rid their minds of their unfortunate situations because they realize, at our school, we do not have access to many things. Sadly enough, this often leads to a decrease in motivation.
