Dictionaries for Literacy
Funded Apr 6, 2023First, thank you for the gift of the dictionaries for our students. We recently received them and immediately began putting them to use in the classroom. The students were excited to see brand new materials to use, and even more excited to learn that these would never leave our classroom.
We began using the dictionaries in multiple ways as soon as we received them. With state testing right around the corner, we began using the dictionaries to practice with test strategies in small groups. The students were amazed at the plethora of words available in the dictionaries. Students also began using the dictionaries to assist them with a research project. The students were diligently searching for the correct information to include in their project using the dictionaries. They were excited to discover the meanings of words. At a time like this, it is essential to have resources for students when schools must share items like dictionaries, but these can remain in the classroom for students to use at crucial times.
We are so excited that these dictionaries will continue to be a constant presence in this classroom for any time students need them. These will be used for learning grammar, test strategies, parts of speech, on projects, etc. The best, and most important factor is that they will always be in this classroom and available to the students.”

Funded Mar 4, 2022Thank you so much for making this project possible. The students were ecstatic when these items arrived. This combination of items made studying so much easier for my students in so many ways.
The masks and hand sanitizer made it possible for the students to feel more healthy and protected when they arrived to class, knowing that they had the germ fighting gear they needed readily available.
The variety of healthy and tasty snacks and water bottles helped the students in many ways. It enabled the students to have peace of mind, knowing that there was a teacher they could ask for a snack if they were in need of something to eat. They were able to concentrate better because they weren't working on an empty stomach. And the students became more motivated to work harder for the chance to "win" a snack.
This project was truly a blessing for the students and we thank you.”

Funded Jan 26, 2022Thank you so much for funding the "Digital Literacy Project" to help my students have access to headphones in the classroom every day. As we move into the digital age of education, it is important for students to have access to resources that enable them to access the content. With these headphones, every student in class, regardless of their socioeconomic background, is able to access digital learning content such as EdPuzzle, Quizizz, and online assessments with text-to-speech features. This enables them to participate in whole class learning and then continue on with independent practice at their own pace.
The students are excited to be able to learn with the online platforms and have access to headphones everyday without worrying about not having money to buy their own. The English language learners and students with academic accommodations particularly love the headphones because they help them to overcome language and learning barriers in the content, which is delivered to all students in a similar format so no student is singled out.
Without your generous donations, our classroom would not have this wonderful resource. Since delivery of the headphones, our assessment scores have increased 5%, which is wonderful growth in such a short time. Thank you so much!”
