Speech Therapy in Color!
Funded May 18, 2020Your great generosity and willingness to help my students has served as a reminder of the goodness in the world during this challenging time. How I would typically have used the color printed and laminated materials would have been in my therapy room working directly with the student. While I am still working with students, the ability to print materials in dynamic color and to laminate them has provided me the ability to send home materials that the student can interact with in real time during remote therapy with me.
The dynamic color of the materials makes them more interesting and engaging for the students. These materials are sturdy and stand up to the little hands that are using them. The sturdiness allows the materials to be engaged with over repeated therapy sessions and to be used with parents/guardians for carryover at home. These materials are also much more versatile. Laminated materials can be colored with markers and then easily cleaned, used with play-doh as a "splat mat" activity, aren't damaged easily, and can be manipulated using Velcro.
The ability to send home engaging materials that can be used repeatedly has also allowed me to provide parent support for student engagement in both direct therapy and other remote educational experiences. I have been working with parents to utilize tools such as motivational token boards and first/then boards to increase student participation through positive reinforcement. This has been highly successful! I have also been able to work with the parents/guardians to increase engagement in alternative/augmentative communication through trials of basic choice boards and picture exchange systems.”
With gratitude,
