  • Grow With Us, Learn With Us

    Funded Aug 27, 2024

Thank you so much for your donations to my classroom. My students are so excited to see the soil, seeds, garden trowels and planters we will be using plant our garden and help beautify our school community. Growing up in the city many of my students do not have backyard spaces to garden and have never planted a garden before. In school we spend so much of our day inside the four walls of our school building opportunities to get outside and connect with nature are few and far between. Gardening will allow them to get outside and connect with nature as well as teach responsibilities, patience and reduce stress. We cannot wait until the weather gets warmer and we can start planting!

Our class garden will also connect perfectly to our reading curriculum. We have three reading units coming up that will perfectly align with our new garden initiative. Our unit of Weather Wise will teach student all about the weather and how it impacts our lives. Students will learn about how plants and animals are affected by the weather. Our unit of Home Sweet Habitat will teach students about animal habitats and how they depend on each other. We will be also learning about how animals use plants within their habitats. Most importantly our unit Time to Grow connects all these ideas as well as teach students about plants and what they need to live and grow. This unit will most closely align to our new garden and I cannot wait to teach my students about our plants and how to help them grow with real hands on connections to our classroom garden.”

  • Save Me a (Socially Distanced) Seat

    Funded Feb 12, 2022

Thank you so much for supporting my classroom. I am so excited that each of my students will have their own copy of Save Me a Seat to read. Each school year I like to begin our studies by reading Save Me a Seat, it is a funny, engaging and heartwarming story about two very different boys who start off disliking each other and eventually grow to find common ground and become friends. All of my students find connections between the main characters Joe and Ravi which help to grow the connections to each other.

Save Me a Seat has been one of my favorite read alouds to share with my class, but with only one classroom copy it was difficult for many readers to follow along with the text. Now, thanks to you, each student will easily be able to keep up with the reading. This will help to build reading stamina, grow vocabulary and overall keep students more engaged in the text.”

  • Choose Kind, With Wonder

    Funded Jul 15, 2021

Thank you so much for your generous donation to my classroom. My students are so excited to have their very own copy of Wonder. We have just begun reading and my students are already enthralled with August and his story. Last school year, we read Wonder digitally and it did not have the same impact as the paper copy. In this digital age, where students have spent the last two school years online, it has been so nice to have their own printed copy of the book to read. Having their own copy of Wonder has been especially helpful for my special education and English language learners. They have been able to follow along in the text and love getting to hold the book in their hands, just like I do during my read aloud.”

  • Save Me a (Socially Distanced) Seat

    Funded Apr 7, 2021

Thank you so much for your generous donation! My students are going to be so excited to receive their own copy of Save Me a Seat as their graduation gift. This was the first book we read together as a class this school year, and I know this book holds a special place in their hearts. Having their own copy of Save Me a Seat will bring back fond memories of their fifth grade class and as they move on to middle school, they can use this story as a source of comfort. As they enter middle school they will likely face some new challenges and having their own copy of Save Me a Seat will remind them even though their new school may seem scary each and every new friend they meet has a unique perspective and has more in common with them than they realize!”

  • Using Computers in Blended Learning

    Funded Apr 7, 2021

Thank you so much for your generous donation. Your donation of a Chromebook computer has been a needed addition to my class. With students transitioning between in person learning and remote learning having an additional computer has made that transition much smoother. Students are able to continue classwork started at home online and continue working in class and vice versa. Having an additional computer has also helped to limit the need for paper in the classroom, both saving trees and eliminating the need of teachers and students to pass papers back and forth for grading. Students can submit work online and teachers can safely work with them to support their academic needs.”

  • Modern Books for Modern Readers!

    Funded Sep 4, 2020

Thank you so much for your donation of books to my classroom! When I first showed by students the books we received they were thrilled to see so many graphic novels! For years I am always asked by students for more graphic novels, and now thanks to you we finally have them!

My students have loved having high interest, modern books with contemporary plots to read. These books have helped bring some normalcy into what is anything but a normal year. They have been an escape from reality and my students have enjoyed connecting with characters that are just like them.

High interest books like the ones you donated to my classroom have helped to facilitate a love of reading in my classroom and my students and I are so grateful for your donation!”

  • Reading Material for Young Programmers!

    Funded Dec 25, 2018

Thank you so much for our Computer Science books! My students have loved having Computer Science books that they can read all by themselves. Having age appropriate reading material has helped my students develop a love of Computer Science. All day long they are asking to read the Computer Science books. The books have been helping my students build an understanding of difficult Computer Science concepts. Because of this reading material they are thinking like Computer Scientists and many are dreaming of one day becoming Computer Scientists.”

  • Smart TV for Smart Kids!

    Funded Nov 7, 2018

Thank you so much for your generous donation to my classroom! Having a Smart TV has impacted my students in so many ways. With the addition of a Smart TV I am now able to display images and videos to the whole class, making lessons more dynamic, engaging and interesting. During science time, for example, when learning about animals and their habitats students are able to view a large image of a sea turtle and investigate the features of the turtle and its habitat. The class can also watch videos of a sea turtle and see how they swim and interact with their environment.

During math lessons I am able to access the online materials of our math curriculum. We can now watch videos that support math content, this provides learners with another way to comprehend material. This is especially helpful for my English language learners and special education students who benefit from having classroom complicated math materials taught using videos to supplement traditional methods.

The addition of the Smart TV also allows us to stream educational videos to help reach all learners. This has opened up a whole new world of possibilities in the classroom, giving us access to all sorts of educational movies and videos.”
