Learning to Earn and Serve!
Funded Dec 3, 2024I am so greatly appreciative of your generosity! The students here at the Brooklyn Arts School Store are thriving!
Using the new system has allowed them to learn how to use a digital Point of Sale system as well as how to track inventory.
We have also been able to, due to the lightweight design of the system, use the POS system for our concessions during the main stage performances.
The students have weighed in on the new system as well.
"It's so fun being able to scan the products with the scan gun before giving them to customers, and being able to see how much stock we have with the new register!"

"The new system is organized and its easy to keep tack of stock. The system also makes it easier to calculate change faster." - Chelsea (Senior)
"It's a good way to keep track of our inventory and shifts." - Ta'Ziyah (Junior)

Funded Jan 28, 2011I would like to say thank you again for the donation that you made to my classroom. It has been such a treat to watch my students play with Shakespeare. They have become more comfortable with reading the language and have increased their willingness to explore the nuances of the play. I have had the opportunity to see many of my students shift from fearing Shakespeare to being eager to read and perform in front of one another.
It is rare that we see a child enjoying Shakespeare but The Comedy of Errors is such a funny play full of mix-ups and madness that the students took to it instantly. (Once they figured out the difference between the two Antipholus and Dromios!) It is your generosity and kindness that brought such a special gift to my students.
I would like to say thank you again for this wonderful gift.”

Stitch With It: A Crafty Way to Come Together!
Funded Dec 9, 2010I would like to thank you for your generous donations. It is such a wonderful thing to know that there are people in this world who truly care about today's youth. You have made it possible for these young people to not only learn a craft but to interact with other students within their school community on a personal level.
Watching these students "get it" is the most incredible feeling. The pride they have in learning a new stitch or finishing a knitting project is pure and lasting. As they advance in this craft they are becoming so excited about creating their own projects. This is something that you have made happen.
You have given these students the opportunity to learn a craft that they will be able to use for the rest of their lives. In the process of learning this craft they have rethought their preconceived notions of gender roles and social statuses. It is inspiring to watch both male and female students, ranging from the 9th to 12th grades, knitting comfortably alongside one another without fear of judgment.
Thank you so much for the opportunity that you have given to all of us.”

Ms. Milliner

Funded Oct 21, 2010I would like to take the opportunity to thank you again for your wonderfully generous donation of books to my classroom. My students are currently learning how to annotate and how to recognize primary and secondary sources with these books.
My school has a very limited budget that has left us unable to order any more books this semester and without your help teaching my students these skills would have been very difficult. Learning these skills will help them not only in English but in their other disciplines as well. They will also carry their new note-taking skills with them into college and that is because of you.
Kindness like yours is a gift to our society! Thank you so very much.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Milliner
