Today, there are constant demonstrations against racism. While this has been going on for years, the media continues to report on them from around the world. The saddest part is how violent some of these demonstrations have been from burning down buildings to shoot outs.
While my classroom contains low to no income families, it also contains a minority white group of students. These factors alone put these students at high risk for dropping out of school or never completing their education. I would like to continue to step up to the challenge and change these factors of the students I teach. I want to combat racism within the classroom and teach the students we are all equal. Our classroom environment should be a judgment free zone where everyone knows they can succeed.
I want to get these books to help further my education about racism. These books can help me create a learning environment in which every student can flourish and success. By reading these books, I can begin to address unconscious and implicit bias within the classroom and lessons.
