My students struggle with understanding simple sentences/directions, expressing their basic wants/needs, and maintaining attention. They require a clear, concise communication style with modeling and scaffolding of visual and verbal cues in order to make progress and increase their independence with communication skills. My students require the ability to hear/see clear audio and visuals to make progress during remote speech therapy. I need a computer that is fast and will allow myself and my students to use multiple applications at a time, hear/see my voice and videos clearly, and engage in interactive activities with access to screen share during virtual therapy. My current computer provided by the district is not reliable, as the quality is disruptive and there is a significant amount of lag and breakdown. My device was provided by the district in order to complete paperwork and write reports, not for virtual learning. I have upgraded my personal home internet connection and it has not helped the situation. Without these basic remote learning necessities, my students are unable to understand me or access virtual speech therapy sessions effectively. Once we return back to in-person learning, I will be able to incorporate the MacBook to synchronize with students' personal assistive technology devices (iPads) and applications in order to give them opportunities to generalize multiple communication opportunities throughout the school day.
