Color Printer
Funded Feb 2, 2022I want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for your support of my students. We have been using this printer nonstop! Right away, I made literacy centers for my students for them to practice phonics skills. Each of the students have been receiving paper decodable books that I let them keep. These decodable books are vital to students learning to read.
Every time they get a new decodable book, they get so excited!
I also made math centers with printer. They use pop it's to help with either adding three numbers, finding the missing added or making a number. It has really been helping each of the students. I really am so thankful for this piece of equipment that has changed how I am able to teach. Thank you so much!”

Funded Jul 27, 2020I would like to truly thank you for your contribution to our classroom. This has honestly been one of my most meaningful donors choose projects yet. Books, in my opinion, are the best vehicle to teach students. I want my students to see themselves in the books I read to them. The books that you contributed to our classroom, not only allowed my students to see themselves, it also helped them feel proud of their culture and learn about other cultures.
Each child had their own favorite book that we have read so far. One of my students said her favorite book was "Skin Like Mine". She didn't even have to tell me that it was her favorite. I knew because she was talking about it the next day with the other students. In first grade, for a student to remember (and talk about) a book that we read the day before in conversation, that is a big deal! She talked so proudly of the color of her skin. It was a beautiful moment and I was grateful for overhearing it.
Again, I want to thank you for your generosity and tell you how much this project, in particular, truly means to me.”

Funded May 18, 2020I would like to truly thank you for your contribution to our classroom. It has been challenging for our students to navigate a new way of learning during a pandemic. Having books in their book baggies that are new, interesting and on their level has been a bright part of their day.
We lost a lot of books last year when the school went remote and being able to refresh the library has been very helpful. Also, something new we must do this year is to quarantine our books after use for safety. It is helpful to have more books to add to our library since many of them must not be used for a certain period of time.
Our students are starting to learn about non-fiction books now. They are really interested in those books as well as the Biscuit books. Again, I want to truly thank you for your generosity and tell you how much it mean to me.”

Funded Aug 19, 2019We have been enjoying our new class set of Mo Willems books so very much! These books do not have a lot of words. However they really helped out when teaching a punctuation lesson in writing. They also are excellent for teaching intonation.
Students get the chance to read everyday in our class. We read at our desks independently first. Then they read with their reading buddies in a special spot in the room. We also cycle through guided reading groups where students practice reading skills with the teacher.
We are truly enjoying these books! Piggie and Elephant are our favorite characters to read stories about and we all thank you for your generosity.”

Funded Feb 14, 2019Wow! I am just so grateful for this project. As soon as we received it in the mail, I started sharing everything with the other first grade classes. It was like Christmas for all of us! When my students came to school that morning and saw their brand new colored pencils, the looks on their faces were incredible. They have been using the colored pencils every single day for different assignments.
Recently we have been writing "All About books" after my students learned about their favorite animal. The colored pencils and new crayons have been incredibly helpful for the illustrations they need to create. The copy paper and ink has also been incredibly helpful because I will be printing covers for their books. These covers will also help the students to feel incredibly proud of their work.
Our whole grade benefited from this project and that is incredibly important to me. Thank you again for your kindness and generosity.”

Warm Clothes for Winter!
Funded Dec 12, 2018This project was something that was badly needed in our school. We have new arrivals all of the time. It can be stressful for them to be in a new country and have to find everything they need for their children to be successful in school. Warm clothes and uniforms should be something we can provide them with and now we can. The parents are grateful to have one less thing to worry about now. Our parent coordinator is able to help those parents who may not be able to afford a new uniform for their child or students who come in without gloves and hats on a frigid winter day.
The next project I would love to work on for my school is to get school supplies for the beginning of the year. We are always in need of marble notebooks, folders, pencils, printer paper, tissues, soap, lysol wipes, etc.
Thank you again for your generosity. I truly appreciate it!”

Super Scientists
Funded Dec 6, 2018This donors choose project was one of my favorites by far! We used our new resources to do two different experiments so far. One was an "Apple-Cano". I cut a section out of the top of an apple for each of the students. Then, they put baking soda and their favorite color of food coloring in the top. Finally, I poured in the vinegar slowly so they could watch what happened. They all kept exclaiming, "It exploded!" Of course we discussed why it "exploded" in scientific terms, but the students truly enjoyed this experiment.
We also attempted making a "rain storm" with shaving cream, water and food coloring. We found this worked much better using the measuring cup instead of a larger container.
The next projects I would like to try with my students are making slime, as well as calming jars that the kids can use when they get upset. Thank you so much for your donation to my students. They have truly enjoyed this project and will continue to benefit from it in the future!”

Funded Dec 28, 2018My students were beyond excited to receive these new books! They came just in time for our non-fiction literacy unit. In this unit, I teach students about the text features they might find in a non-fiction book: Table of Contents, Diagram, Index, etc. Now, when I teach students a lesson about non-fiction books, they are able to have books on their own level to practice reading.
When I opened the boxes of books, I let the students choose books they were interested in reading. This was not something I was able to do before. Before this Donors Choose Project, I had to dig around for any book I could find. Now low level readers can choose from books they are excited to read.
This truly was a dream come true for me. I have struggled to find books for my students on their level and I finally have them because of your generosity! Thank you so much!”

Let Them Read!
Funded Jul 19, 2018I want to take this time to thank you again for your generous contribution to our classroom. Our books and supplies have arrived! When the children saw the new books and phonics center, their eyes lit up. They begged me to open up the phonics center and show them how to use it. Since then, my nonreaders have been using the phonics center after our guided reading groups. They are working towards learning their letters and gaining the fundamentals they did not learn in Kindergarten. These books and the centers in particular are helpful since many of my students do not know the language. They really want to read the new books I have and are enthusiastic about it.
My next step is to move some of my higher readers so they can enjoy some of the brand new high level books I have in the library, thanks to donors like you. Thank you for the kindness you showed our class.”

Clothes for All!
Funded Mar 29, 2018I cannot express how grateful I am for this particular Donors Choose Project. I see the students in my class and my school come in everyday wearing the same uniform shirts. Usually they still have the same stains on them from days or weeks before. I am so thankful that we were able to give them shirts for the upcoming school year that will fit them and are clean.
These new shirts made the students so excited! I was able to give out shirts to students who need them in my class and students in the other first grade classes. The shirts were soft and clean and will start the students off to a great new school year feeling good about themselves.
Thank you again for your generosity. I am truly thankful!”
