  • Help Us Read to Succeed!!

    Funded Dec 7, 2008

My students and I appreciate this generous gift more than you know. The number one complaint in my classroom is the lack of interesting books. My students do not need another excuse not to read! Your books will empower my students to take control of their own learning. As my students read the books you have so generously funded, they will increase their reading level. This means they will be better readers and be able to read the hard texts on the state test. You really could not know how greatly this gift has improved my students' chance of success. Please do know that my students and I do thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

    Thank you,

  • Tears Of A Tiger (Or My Students Struggling To Find Books)

    Funded Dec 11, 2008

Thank you so much for funding my project! My students and I are unbelievably grateful for your generosity. I know that the number one hurdle in my classroom is the lack of interesting books. I hear complaints literally every day. It is my personal philosophy that no student should ever want for a book. My students do not have all the resources as others so thank you for leveling the playing field. They really can succeed. Trust me, I have seen students pick up interesting books and become interested in learning. My students are so excited for these books to arrive. Thank you for giving my students the tools for success. We owe you more thank you know.

    Sincerely,

  • Give These Books a Second Look!

    Funded Dec 11, 2008

I cannot tell you how grateful I am for these books. My students keep asking for interesting books and now they will have some! Thank you so much for your generosity. Many of my students lack the structure that set me up for success (such as interesting reading books), so know that your gift really will make a difference in their lives. The simple knowledge that someone cares about their education really will motivate them to succeed. The interesting books truly will increase their reading level before the rigorous English Regents exam.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

    Sincerely,

    Funded Dec 10, 2008

Thank you so much for giving my students the tools for success! They have asked me for so long for books and thanks to you, they can finally have them. My students are literally hungry for knowledge. Thank you for inspiring them to achieve everything I know they can. Students often lose motivation, so the knowledge that a stranger cares so deeply about their learning will really push them. Thank you for everything you have given my students. We owe you more than you know.

  • Number One Reading Hustler

    Funded Dec 10, 2008

I cannot tell you how grateful I am that you funded my project! My students have been asking for books they can actually RELATE to, you have answered their pleas! "Miss, you need some GOOD books..." "Miss...you can't expect me to read THAT!" Know that with these books, my students will be truly touched. Not only will they appreciate the generosity of strangers, but also they will be excited to LEARN! With these books, my students will be able to engage with literature and truly remember the books they read. This will raise their reading level and prepare them for the English Regents. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and my students' hearts. We owe you more than you know.

  • The Case of the Missing Books!

    Funded Nov 23, 2008

Thank you for opening your heart to my students. They appreciate it more than you know. Graphic novels are the most popular books in my classroom library. Many of my students are still learning English, so the pictures help to build their vocabulary and comprehension. Thanks to the generosity of people like you, my students have a fighting chance to succeed. Know that my students and I are touched that you would help them when you do not even know them.

  • "Speak" To Give My Students A Voice!

    Funded Nov 10, 2008

Thank you so much for responding to my students' need. They truly appreciate it. My students complain every day about lack of books and you are an answer to this extreme need. You are helping more than you know. My girls, especially, will appreciate this book. I will try to promote this book among my boys as well. They have a lot to learn, especially about girls. Respect and empathy are one of the most important issues they can learn. Thank you for giving my students the ability to realize what it is like to be in someone else's shoes. I know that the lessons in that book re life lessons. Thank you for all you do. Both my students and I owe you more than you know.

  • Newsweek: News for the Reading "Weak"

    Funded Oct 20, 2008

Thank you so much for opening your heart to my students. They really need non-fiction reading materials. Just before I received the email today, one of my students requested that we learn and debate "worldly issues." With your gift, you made that request a possibility. Thank you for all your generosity. My students are in an Advanced English class and they have been thirsting for extra knowledge. You are giving them the chance to compete with suburban students who are provided reading materials like this on a daily basis. My students dream big and you are helping them make these dreams a reality. My students and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You make a larger difference than you know.

    Sincerely,

    Ms. ”

My students entered the 10th grade with an average of A SEVENTH GRADE reading level. Over the past year, they have raised their reading levels an average of TWO years each. They are living proof that students will achieve when given the tools to do so. While they are now experts at reading fiction, they are still craving nonfiction that will give them a balanced world view.
