  • Young iYogi's - Creating Yoga Visuals

    Funded May 15, 2013

Thank you does not even begin to express how grateful I am to each and every one of you for your support of this project. I work hard in my classroom to provide my student with as many meaningful experiences as possible to aid in their learning, but often I find many of my ideas are stalled due to the lack of resources. Thanks to wonderful human beings like yourselves, I am able to continue on with this yoga and writing project for the coming school year, and many years to come. Thank you again from myself and my students!”

  • Hots Dots - Lighting Up Comprehension!

    Funded Apr 18, 2011

WOW! I cannot believe the generosity for everyone towards this project. I barely read the email that this request was posted before I received an email telling me it was funded. I thank you all for this amazing gift.

I fight daily to balance the use of technology and activities with meeting the necessary standards for my students. The personal discovery of the Hot Dots products has alleviated most of that conflict in my planning. These products are standards based questions and reading passages, but what kids enjoy is the immediate feedback that comes in the lights and noises. A red light and a buzzer is much less intimidating and frustrating then me saying, "check that one again.

Thank you all again for providing these new resources for my students in Reading and English Language Arts. They are going to be THRILLED.”

  • I Need a Book Supply That Meets Their Demands!

    Funded Dec 3, 2011

WOW! The support you all have shown my students with this project is just so phenomenal. I never want my students or any student in my school building to go hungry for reading materials. But I often find myself at a point where I can not feed the desire of new, exciting reading adventures. I turned to Donorschoose to see if there were those willing to help these students further their love for reading. And you all stepped up so willingly. I cannot express to you the amount of gratitude I have at this moment and I will have every time I see the joy on the faces of these students when they discover a love for a new book. Thank you all again!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Maxey

  • Reading and Listening to Get Rid of Bullies!

    Funded Oct 28, 2011

This is just a great start to the new quarter of school! It's a painful process to watch my students struggle in reading. They get so excited and pumped up at their progress in regards to reading, as they should. But once they walk out of my classroom door, the stark reality that being an English Language Learner keeps them continuously behind their peers. This often causes my students to be picked on and ridiculed for reading books that other were able to read years ago. With these resources that you helped my students receive, hopefully this ridicule will be diminished greatly. They will be able to listen and read along with higher leveled books that their peers are also reading. This second dose of guided and purposeful reading will help their progress greatly in reading. Hopefully they will soon be able to independently read these great novels as well. THANK YOU THANK YOU for your support!”

  • Erasing Erosion in our Garden! (Disney Challenge Project!)

    Funded Oct 25, 2011

WOW!! Thank you all for your amazing support of this project. I was so disheartened when we wrapped up our unit on rocks and soils a few weeks ago. My students were just not grasping the concepts very well. I turned to Donorschoose.org and phenomenal supports like you all to help my students! They are exceptional bright and wanting to understand, I am just not always able to make the concepts come alive for them. They want to understand soils and rocks and erosion so that our garden will continue to succeed. But it's hard to solve that problem when understanding soil is a huge issue in itself. Thank you for these materials to be used by my Disney Planet Challenge team and the rest of the third grade students at my school!”

  • The Bullied Becoming the Bullies - Books to Stop the Cycle!

    Funded Oct 14, 2011

WOW! What a wonderful end to this week. It is just that point in school where all the students are finally over the initial shock of being back and are comfortable with each other. It's also that point where students start to test the boundaries of social accepted behavior and expressions. So I cannot express to you how thrilled I am to have these materials and books coming to my students. I have found that talking about tolerance and bullying out of context is a great path, but students also need to see and read about people who have faced discrimination and bullying and overcame those obstacles. Often times these people did not turn around and bully others, they just persevered and became amazing human beings.

Thank YOU for being amazing human beings.”

  • How Does a Garden Grow? We Want to Know FEED USA!

    Funded Oct 3, 2011

Wow! First of all, thank you all, each and every one of you, for you contribution to this project! My students are enthralled with their garden box already this year. Their plants have taken off and they are excited to continue learning about gardening. The books will quickly fulfill their reading demands, as well as inspire future gardening projects. The NOOK will allow our reading about plants, life cycles, and gardening to continue.

And thank you Sonic for all your amazing, continued support of classrooms, students, and teachers!”

  • We Want to be Bugging Out!

    Funded Sep 16, 2011

Wow! Thank you all for this awesome resource for the classroom!! My students just finished learning the different life cycles this week in science. This resource will let their learning continue over time, so this information doesn't just become a bunch of words they learned once. Getting to experience the life cycles first hand, watching carefully and scientifically as the eggs change and grow, will make this information become permanent and a life long experience. Thank you all for making this happen for my students. I cannot wait to share with you their pictures and first hand accounts.”

  • Writing with Origami

    Funded Aug 28, 2011

Wow! Thank you both for your amazing support for this project. Joel - Your grandmother (Oma) sounds like she was a truly remarkable person. My students and I appreciate your selfless support in her honor and will work hard to live up to her standards! My students and I will not disappoint you. Quill - Thank you for your continued support of America's classrooms. You do so much for students across this country and I wish I could do more to show you how indebted I am to your kindness.

This project is going to be an amazing experience for my students and their writing. I cannot wait to share with you the effect it will have on my students!”

The school my students attend is a Title 1 school in a Title 1 urban district. 90% of the students at my school are on free and reduced lunch. But we set high standards and expectations for our students, and they continue to meet those expectations. We are a community based school, meaning that the students all come from the surrounding neighborhood. I teach ESOL for grade K-5. My students represent a variety of diverse cultures. But what they all have in common is that they are working to grasp and understand the English Language on a daily basis.
