Turn Up the Volume!
Funded Feb 3, 2016Hi guys! I just wanted to let you know we received the headphones last week and I have already seen a huge difference in my classroom.
First of all, the students were excited because they were a cool red color and way more comfortable than the few random headphones I had tried to collect for the class. We have used them twice so far and I wish I could send you a video of how quiet it is during our technology block! I have been able to work with individual students without having to worry about classroom management because everyone has been so focused and on task.
Today, as we wrapped up our session using a reading program, a student who is easily distracted said, "What? Already? That felt like five minutes!" He had read for the entire forty-five minutes completely engaged in his reading. This may have been the first time in his life where he was able to sit and read for that long. The expression on his face was priceless. Amazing what a set of headphones can do!
I am so blessed to have such great friends in my life. Thank you for supporting the students in my classroom!!!”

Need "Just Right" Books to Hook 3rd Graders Into Books!
Funded Oct 25, 2013When the books arrived, my students couldn't believe that "strangers" had donated brand-new books to our classroom. In their minds, "strangers" were the bad people they had to stay away from! My plan that morning was to introduce a few of the titles and gradually incorporate the books into the classroom library over time. However, looking at my students faces, I knew I had to give them time to browse the books. My morning lesson plans went out the window. We ended up spending the whole morning looking at the new books and reading! It felt like Christmas morning with students spread out all over the room just taking in all the gifts, some lost in their own world, while others enjoyed a book with friends.
Every classroom needs a library filled with books that will engage all types of readers. With your donation, my students now have more choices when choosing books that are at their particular reading level and interests. Thanks to you, my reading program is running just a bit more smoothly as students are able to find books they are excited about. I have less behavioral issues during Readers' Workshop, which enables me to conference with more individual and small groups of students. I even have students coming in after school wanting to just sit in read in the classroom library!
Thank you all again for enriching the lives of many through your generosity!”

Aspiring Authors Need to Get Published
Funded Jan 8, 2012I cannot begin to share with you our excitement over having our very own printer in the classroom! We have printed out our narratives, essays, and some poetry so far. I have been able to make copies of students' illustrations and pages from their writing to share. I have not used the scanner feature yet, but can't wait until my students finish publishing their next piece so that we can scan and create a digital version of their work. So many new possibilities thanks to the generous donations from all of you.”

Funded Dec 8, 2011Our super-deluxe pencil sharpener arrived! I am writing on behalf of my students who are treating the pencil sharpener like a brand-new class pet.
The class pencil monitors have been busy sharpening ALL of our pencils in the classroom. We even sharpened all of our colored pencils today for the FIRST time this year and we were able to do an integrated art and science lesson with no fuss! Every student had sharpened colored pencils to work with. Although we have only had the sharpener in the class for two days, we have had to empty it twice already. The sharpener works beautifully and is pretty quiet.
Thank you again for your generous donation to my classroom.”

Funded Jan 16, 2007Wow, I feel like I just won the lottery! I can't thank you enough. My class is going to be so excited when they hear the great news. These mats couldn't have come at a better time. We had just made New Year's Resolutions and the one goal the whole class had in common was to get more exercise. Now, I can help them attain this goal -without having to fight for yard space! We'll be looking forward to receiving the mats soon and you'll be getting many thank you notes and cute yoga pictures from my students.
Thank you for caring and making a difference!!!
