Chromebooks for Our School
Funded Dec 6, 2018Thank you so much for your donation to our project. As an ENL/ELA teacher, I use many resources that require the use of laptops. In order to help foster student's skills and engage them in the material, I am constantly looking for new sites and sources that will help my students. Before receiving our new laptops, we would have to work with slow computers or have students work on other assignments as we rotated the working computers. Now we have quick access to laptops for all students. We rely heavily on Google Classroom to complete essays, share lessons, share videos and communicate outside the classroom. Students are currently working on a Romeo and Juliet unit in which they have to make several group presentations. Students are also working on an investigative journalism unit in which they write about community and global issues. The end project will be to create a newspaper filled with everyone's articles. Students have received a google template form in which they add in their stories. Students have shown enthusiasm for this project as it makes them feel like real journalists. Having the laptops available makes this all possible. They can create presentations and do research for their writing . One of my favorite uses of laptop use in the classroom is being able to provide feedback to everyone in a timely manner. Through the use of google classroom, I can check all student's work and immediately provide feedback. I am able to track students' progress as they work on their assignments. As the year winds down, we also try to find new fun activities to keep students motivated. One of my students' favorite resource is kahoots. This website allows us to make fun and interactive games while going over classroom content. Students have shown improvement in their writing by using the resources available to them through the use of the laptops. We've used to review content for New York State Exams, unit tests and content from minilessons. Thank you once again for your generosity!! We greatly appreciate you all!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Martinez
