  • Promoting Social-Emotional Learning: Establishing a Second Grade Calming Corner

    Funded Aug 8, 2024

The calming corner has become a safe haven where my students can manage their emotions and recharge before re-engaging with their learning.

One memorable moment was the day the materials were unveiled. When my students first saw the tree bookcase, their faces lit up with excitement. One student exclaimed, "It looks like a little forest just for us!" They eagerly explored the books on social-emotional learning, flipping through the pages and sharing what they learned about kindness and mindfulness. The bean bags, tree stump stools, and rug quickly became favorite spots for quiet reflection. One student shared, "This is my new favorite place in the classroom—it feels peaceful."

The calming corner has already supported my students in countless ways. For instance, during a busy day, a student who was feeling overwhelmed chose to sit in the corner with the expandable ball and practice deep breathing. After a few minutes, they rejoined the group with a calm and focused mindset. The visual reminders on the posters have also been helpful tools for students to independently use relaxation techniques when they need a moment to reset.

Thanks your generosity, this project has had a profound impact on our classroom. We are grateful for your support in fostering a space where my students can grow both academically and emotionally. Thank you for helping us build a foundation of empathy, resilience, and kindness!”

    With gratitude,

  • Robotics Awakens Creativity

    Funded Dec 5, 2022

The donated iPads have been instrumental in transforming my second-grade classroom into an innovative learning environment for robotics and computer science. Through educational apps and programs, my students have engaged in hands-on activities that promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and computational skills. For example, they use coding apps to program robots, fostering an understanding of algorithms and logical reasoning. The iPads serve as versatile tools for accessing digital resources, interactive tutorials, and online platforms that supplement our curriculum. By integrating technology seamlessly into my lessons, I am able to cater to diverse learning styles and provide students with real-world applications of STEM concepts.

The most exciting aspect of the donated iPads for our students is the opportunity to explore the world of robotics and computer science in a dynamic and interactive way. They are captivated by the hands-on experiences of programming robots to navigate mazes, complete challenges, and even perform tasks in simulated environments. The ability to see their code come to life through the movement and actions of robots sparks curiosity and enthusiasm for learning.”

Thank you for your very kind donation, which helped my students received the headphones needed to continue learning even after a pandemic. Providing them the opportunity to continue learning regardless of what was happening around the world. My students were ecstatic when we opened the boxes and saw the headphones with microphones integrated. My students will continue using the headphones at home and in school.

Your assistance means so much to me but even more to all the students that will benefit from these headphones. Thank you again on behalf of all my students.”

My students are first graders attending a school located in a low socioeconomic area in Los Angeles. They are in a dual language class in which they are learning two languages at the same time. There are 15 boys and 7 girls between the ages of 6 and 7. My students are full of energy and are eager to learn new concepts every day even though a lot of times, because of economic hardship, their parents have two jobs to be able to support their family. Many parents are lacking time to spend with children and talk to them about the importance of education.
