Access to technology is a luxury that not every student in my class can afford. The community I have the opportunity to work with faces many challenges on a daily basis, especially after Hurricane Harvey. A storm that caused many of my students to lose everything. Even though the storm took the few things they owned, it did not take their perseverance and excitement to learn and come to school every day. In many of my students’ households owning a computer and having internet access is not a priority, food is. That is the reason why I am trying to have at least three nice fully equipped computers for them to use and complete their assignments. I want to teach my students that not owning a computer should not be a limitation to be successful. Technology accessible for all students in my class is a need not a want, my students form part of the millennial generation and need to be exposed to the most up to date technology available. This will expand their knowledge of technology, motivate, and enable them to take ownership of their learning.
