Supporting Super Scholars!
Funded Nov 27, 2018Our class is so thankful for all of your help getting the resources they need to help support their reading success. Now that we have so many bins I was able to expand our class library. Instead of only having 2 or 3 bins of what we call dessert books (books they read for fun), we now have over 12 bins filled with different categories of dessert books. Now the students are able to easily find the books that interest them and also read a new variety of books.
When we first opened our boxes with all of the new bins, my students were so excited they all were screaming with happiness. They could not wait to open them up and when I told them they were for their library they were so excited they wanted to stop everything we were doing to organize our new bins in our library. Each student also has one of the smaller bins that they share with just one other student and they get to keep those bins in their cubbies to hold their own bag of independent reading books so they were so excited that they each got to have their own bin as well.
Our next steps in the classroom are to continue increasing each student's interests and open them up to a variety of books. My goal is to helping encourage students to find more books that they enjoy to read and to hopefully help them grow as readers and by allowing them to be exposed to a variety of materials as well as increase their reading levels buy frequently letting them use their independent reading books that are in their little bins.”

This classroom project was brought to life by An anonymous donor and 5 other donors.Flexible Kindergarten!
Funded Jul 3, 2017Thanks to the generous donations, my class was able to successfully implement flexible seating. We use our ball seats to allow movement without impacting our learning. The wobble cushions supported students on stools and on the carpet. Staying seated for a full school day is very difficult, especially 5 and 6 year-olds. Every chance they had they were bouncing and able to continue learning and stay focused. Their testing scores were on target with the standards and they achieved many milestones.
My flexible seats were ready for the first day of school so when I conducted their kindergarten interviews they were able to see what this year had in store for them. Both the students and their families were excited to see the balls, cushions, and stools in the room to help support their learning.
The next steps for my class will be to focus on strategies to increase academic rigor now that behavior can be maintained through the flexible seating.”
