Empowering Students Through Art
Funded Jan 29, 2018My students enjoy coloring and painting. They like the art materials. They were so excited when the boxes came with the materials. They could not wait to start using them.
My students painted butterflies as part of their growing and changing theme. They took pleasure in drawing pictures of their family members. My students also enjoyed making collages for each season and collages of their faces. The art materials set the stage for them to be more social by engaging in conversations and sharing their creations.
My students will continue to use the art materials to create theme-based projects in the classroom. They will also continue to use the materials to create their own works of art during their center time.”

This classroom project was brought to life by The First Million Fund and 5 other donors.Books For Imagination and Exploration
Funded Dec 31, 2017Thank you very much for the books. My students really appreciate them. My classroom did not have many books, especially age-appropriate books for three year Olds. We often "read" books on the SmartBoard. The arrival of these books transformed my classroom. My students were so excited to see the books and to enjoy the wonderful stories. The book delivery opened a whole new world for my students. These books exposed my students to good literature and many of the children's favorites such as Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom by Bill Martin.
The students in my classroom read books by looking at the pictures. They also read from memory. When they are reading, they are creating their own story or retelling the story from what they remember from previous readings. They enjoy the vibrant colors in the books. The books are very strong and durable for their little hands. The books are sturdy and they can withstand many readings and the slight roughness of young readers. One boy in my classroom really enjoys reading books about animals. He loves enjoys learning about animals and he becomes excited when he sees animals as characters in the books we read.
Once again, thank you for having such an impact on my students and their first school experience. I'm sure the experience will help them to foster a love for reading and an appreciation for books.”

Learning Through Code with a Dash and Dot Robot for STEM!
Funded Mar 9, 2016Thank you for your generous donation. This technology has really made an impact on my students. They are engaged and learning more about coding. Students like programming the robot and watching him carry out their commands. They also enjoy watching him respond to their voices. It is like having another student in the classroom. This technology is particularly good for students who need to stay busy and students who may find it difficult to stay on task. These kinesthetic learners need to be active all the time and prefer physical tasks such as engaging with the robot. I look forward to the endless possibilities of these experiences for my students.”

Funded Mar 9, 2016Dear Donors,
Thank you for the alternative seating in my classroom. My students love these seats. They like sitting at the kidney table and working with me while they bounce on these seats. These chairs give them the freedom to move around. The chairs are also very comfortable and squishy. My students like the fact that these chairs are filled with air and they are round. This is nothing like the traditional chairs they are accustomed to sitting on in the classroom.
My students were so excited when they saw these new chairs in our classroom. They could not wait to sit on them. When they got a chance to sit on them, they were filled with awe and excitement. It was a new and exciting experience for them. Everyday they look forward to their time to work with me so they can sit on the chairs.
Hopefully, in the future, I would like to provide more alternative seating options for my students. Some students need to move around. Kindergarten students need to be able to move around in the classroom. Many of them find it hard to sit still in one spot, especially on the hard traditional classroom chairs. My goal is to add more creative seating and even standing options for my students.
Thanks for supporting our classroom with your donations.”

ecoSTEM kit for a Memorable Lesson!
Funded Mar 9, 2016Dear Donors,
My students are using the ecoSTEM kit to find out more about pollination and pollinators. They are learning about soil, pollination and the food supply. They are learning how butterflies, bees, and beetles help the food supply and why they are so important to certain crops. At the same time, they are using tablets and other materials to research more about this topic and take notes.
My students were surprised and amazed when they saw the materials. They felt this way because the materials came in such a big box. They were so amazed because the box was full of many supplies and resources to help them learn about pollination, plants, and garden insects. They were excited to actually grow something and see how insects change. They were also excited to see firsthand how plants and insects depend on each other.
In the future, my students will continue to explore garden plants and insects. They will get the opportunity to go to the community garden and see plants and insects in action there too. They will also grow flowers and vegetables in the community garden. They will continue their research on different garden insects and plant varieties. They will learn how insects are helpers.”

Life Essentials for My Students!
Funded Jan 17, 2016Dear Donors,
Thank you for your donations. My students are very grateful for your support. They appreciate the snacks and hygiene products you helped provide for our classroom. Students use the Clorox wipes to clean and disinfect their tables and chairs. They also use them to disinfect resources we use in the classroom such as iPads and manipulatives. The students appreciate the bottled water and juices to quench their thirst on hot days, especially after recess.
My students were very excited when they first saw the materials. They felt relieved that we had our own classroom supply of snacks and juices as well as hygiene products. They did not waste any time requesting the items either. They were quite pleased at the options that were provided for them. They also liked cleaning up and sanitizing their desks and their hands.
The next steps for my students would be to continue discussing proper health and hygiene. I want them to see how important health and hygiene is to their overall well-being. They will learn ways to keep themselves clean and how they can prevent the spread of germs. I also want them to focus on the importance of water and staying hydrated especially during warm weather.
Thank you again for providing these life essentials for my students. They learned so much by using the items.”
With gratitude,
Ms. M.
