  • Choose Your Seat, Choose Your Future

    Funded Jul 25, 2018

Students have been able to enjoy flexible seating within the classroom. This has really made a change in reading stamina and students engagement in small group work. The ability to choose your seat allows students to work in an area that is comfortable for them making them more successful. The students were so excited to utilize the cushions and bean bag chairs. One of most successful pieces were the standing desks. This gives students a chance to stretch their legs and really work in whatever setting is best for them.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lucci

  • Reading Wins

    Funded Jul 18, 2017

My last project so unbelievably helpful for my students this year. I am excited to continue to make changes in my classroom to help push them further in their learning this coming school year. The chairs and mat helped students feel more comfortable working in different environments. They learned to work independently and appropriately with each other in these spaces during group work and silent work times. With my library continuing to grow I was able to reach each student at the level they were at and help them move forward with their reading skills. Moving towards "reading to learn" as opposed to "learning to read". Thank you again for all your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lucci

This year as a class I am implementing the Daily 5 into my classroom. This is a framework that helps foster a love of reading and using skills taught within class to help them better understand what they read. During this learning the students are given the opportunity to choose a space in the classroom and to read books of their choice while implementing the strategies taught in class this week. It is crucial that my students have books that are not only on their level but books that interest them and spaces that are comfortable for them to build stamina. By choosing an area that is appropriate for each individual student they have pride in their reading and are more focused and determined to stay on track during this time.
