I teach AP biology at high school in a suburb of Washington, DC that serves a large population of low income and minority students. Many of my students lack the essential prior knowledge and skill set deemed necessary to be successful in a collegiate level class. While this may be an initial set-back, my students have shown great perseverance, and dedication to be successful. Each class we work together to overcome many obstacles in order to dive into the content, develop understanding and prepare for the AP exam at the end of the year. Most of my students are college bound and have the commitment to develop the skills necessary to not only get them into college, but to allow them to thrive once they get in.
