  • TK-1st Aut Core Classroom Supplies

    Thank you for your donations, everything was helpful to help my students succeed in the classroom. We used our whiteboards during ELA and math groups. The students enjoyed practicing their letter formations on the whiteboards, and they enjoyed drawing pictures on them to help them solve addition and subtraction math problems.

    The printer was of great use to allow me to print out practice worksheets for the students for all core subjects, ELA, Math, Science, and Social studies. I also got to print fun activity pages that the students enjoyed working on, such as easter related worksheets where the had to reveal the picture by coloring by code, and valentine's, mother's day, and father's day activities, where the students got to color and create fun little projects to take to their parents for those holidays.

    The students were the most excited about the fidget toys, it help them with the sensory input they need. They used them to take breaks in the calm down area, when they were getting frustrated or upset and just needed that sensory break where they got to either lay down with pillows and use fidget toys, and use that sensory input to help them relax and be ready to continue working.”

  • Flexible Seating for Aut Core Class

    My students were very excited when they first saw the materials arrived to our class. At first they were wondering what all the boxes were, but once I built the core chairs and blew air into the yoga ball chairs they had an excited face. Immediately they wanted to try them, some of the students sat on the core chair and started spinning, others got on the yoga ball chairs and started bouncing. One of my students with a very excited voice kept saying "We have cool chairs, we have cool chairs!!"

    The chairs have greatly benefit my class. It allows my students that tend to get up from the normal chairs to stay seated longer on those core chairs and produce better work, because they get to wiggle around and spin while working, therefore they don't feel the need to get up from their chair. The bouncing yoga ball also benefited my students that need that calming sensation when working because it soothes them to slightly bounce up and down on the yoga ball chairs as they work, they have also helped with reducing meltdowns in the classroom because when they are about to have a behavioral meltdown the yoga ball chairs help them calm down.

    The soft floor cushions has also been beneficial to my students, this allows them to sit on the rug during circle time and stay on their cushion on their own space not invading other students' space. It helps the understand where they have to sit and it provides a more comfortable seating on the floor experience which in return allows them to sit on the rug for a longer time without having to lay on the floor and wiggle which allows them to focus during the lesson.

    I will continue to use flexible seating in my classroom, my students will be giving the option as to what chair they will like to use to sit on while doing their classwork. Sometimes students like to use one type of chair for one activity and another chair for a different activity, students will be given that option as well. This arrangement will continue to benefit my students, which in return will help them stay seated, do work, and focus for longer periods of time.”

If my students don't have that they will be constantly distracted, and get up from their chairs to wander around the classroom and release their energy and wiggles that way. Flexible seating in my classroom will provide my students with the sensory input they need. They will be able to release their energy while seating. The Kore Wobble Chairs and Gaiam Balance Ball Chairs will allow the students to wobble and bounce releasing their energy and at the same time allowing them to focus and complete their work. The SoftZone Floor Cushions will be useful for the class library and story time, where each student can grab a cushion to sit on the floor and look at a book or listen to a story being read.
