  • Mini Artists Learn Through Creativity!

    Funded Apr 15, 2024

Thank you so much for the art supplies that you gifted to my students! I am always so in awe of the generosity that is given to supporting my students' growth and development.

Your generosity allowed my students to explore their creative side and provided them another outlet of expression. Many of my students are nonspeaking. Providing them different opportunities for different modes of expression is invaluable. In addition many have sensory issues that impede their ability to engage in some arts and crafts activities. The paint pens allows them the ability to have hands on experience with painting while working on their processing needs!”

  • Special Needs Scholars Soar With Technology

    Funded Mar 7, 2024

Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity. I was able to get my project for a new MacBook Air fully funded!! My previous personal laptop was blinking and shutting down, making it frustrating and time-consuming to do needed tasks such as session notes, report writing and reaching out the parents on Class Dojo. I have also been able to create differentiated materials such as adapted books, interactive books and boom cards to support my students' different learning styles.

My student and I are so lucky to have a community like Donors Choose and wonderful supporters like yourself to provided us with things needed to support their learning. My special needs preschoolers deserve the chance to play, learn and explore just like their peers and you provide the ability for them to do so in a way that matches their current needs.

    Thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lesley

  • Communication Tool and Data Tracking

    Funded Sep 22, 2022

Thank you so much for your kind and generous donations. Together we were able to fully fund an iPad mini that has been invaluable this school year. I have been using the iPad to lesson plan and take data during my sessions. I have drastically cut down on the amount of paper and ink being used. We are helping to save the environment!!

Additionally, many of my preschoolers are nonspeaking. I am able to use the iPad mini to trial communication apps. I use the trial data to make recommendations to get them their own personal communication devices. These communication devices provide the opportunity for my students to communication their wants and needs and increase socialization. They help to decrease their anxiety and frustration at not being understood and decreases negative behaviors. The use of the iPad mini demonstrates their ability to use the device and I am able to request funding from the DOE, this provides equitable opportunity for all my students to communicate and does not put the financial burden on the families.”

  • Adapting Fun for Everyone!!

    Funded Dec 1, 2021

Thank you so much for your generosity, it has made such a difference in my speech therapy room! I was able to adapt materials to assist my special education students access the preschool curriculum. I was able to get toys that are developmentally appropriate for my delayed and neuro-divergent students.

My students responded so positively to the adapted toys and it helped to bridge a connection between switches/cells and communication. Many of my students will be getting a communication device to assist in their ability to express their wants and needs and the adapted toy is a fun and natural way for them to learn about it!

I am beyond moved with the support I received. Thank you all so much.”

  • Sparking Joy by Getting Organized!

    Funded Dec 1, 2021

Thank you so much for your generosity. Our speech room was able to organize out toys and materials and provide more opportunities for our students to engage in child-led play.

Our students were so thrilled to see our new space and the toys we were able to bring out of storage bins and into the space.

Parents and teachers have responded positively to our new therapy space set-up and noted how warm and inviting our space looks now! It is a vast improvement on plastic storage bins stacked on top of each other and covered with a blanket. You made that possible!

I cannot thank you all enough!”

  • Fun With Food Friday!

    Funded Dec 2, 2021

Thank you so much for your generous donations. My students and I are enjoying the materials and resources. This has been a difficult school year, but your support for my students has made it better.

We are now able to support students during breakfast/lunch/snack with adapted eating utensils. Many are trying new foods for the first time!

Sensory processing difficulties are being addressed with a variety of tools that you helped me obtain. One student even requested more applesauce while eating it with a vibrating spoon tip. He had only eaten crackers prior to this session!

My collaborating teachers are thankful as well, because as a speech department we are modeling effective eating strategies and pre-feeding oral "warm-ups" to make meal times more successful.

This could not have been done without you!”

  • Help Special Needs Preschoolers Learn Safely!

    Funded Aug 29, 2020

Thank you so much for all your generous donations. You have made such a positive impact on my students. This school year has proved to be very challenging, but your kindness has helped make it safer and more fun!

I was able to create individual bins for all my in-person students with playdoh, slime, cookie cutters, books, wind-up ys, sensory toys, ball and crayons. These individual bins are only used by the designated students and they are all able to find their bin and request what activity they want to engage in during their "free play".

I have also been able to use the new iPad for so many fun and engaging activities! It has helped cut-down on the paper use and is so easy to wipe down between sessions. Thank you for help saving trees and saving me time!

I have also downloaded communication apps for my limited/non-verbal students on the iPad that was purchased. I am able to trial these communication apps, then recommended if they should receive an assistive technology evaluation. If they are approved these students are given their own "talker" (iPad with communication app) that support their language development as an AAC (Augmentative Alternative Communication). They use their talkers as their "voice" and it provides them a meaningful way to communicate. You have helped bring a voice to a child, who previously has little to no other outlet. You are amazing!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lesley

My special needs preschoolers will use these materials to learn through play both at home and in-person. Individual learning bundles will be created and either kept at school or sent home to keep everyone safe. The majority of my students are nonverbal and rely on laminated core boards to communicate that will be created individually and sent home. They are developmentally delayed and need appropriate toys to help them play, learn, explore and communicate. The iPad will reduce the use of paper materials which are no longer allowed and can easily be wiped between students.
