Tote It and Go!
Funded Jul 12, 2020Thanks to you, everyone of my students - whether learning from home or coming into the school building - received a large bag full of school supplies, new books, learning materials, and masks! Students that come to school, took this bag home. Students that are learning from home, had a parent or guardian stop by and pick one up. The resources that your donations purchased directly supported my students' learning and also helped parents to make sure their child had all of the materials he or she needs to be successful for this challenging school year.
When my students and their family members saw these bags they immediately wondered whose birthday it was! "Why are we getting gifts?", Nathan asked. I informed Nathan and the rest of the class that kind strangers wanted to make sure that they had everything they needed for school and cared about them so much that put everything in a big blue tote bag!
Because of your generosity, my students are reminded of the kindness of others and have added "Donor" to a chart of people that are "Nearest and Dearest to My Heart" . This is the chart that they use to write letters and stories about. Now, my students are motivated to write thank you letters to people that have shown them kindness! Our next steps? Writing letters to students in the Philippines! This is an example of what kindness does. It encourages more kindness.
Thank you for being kind to my scholars (and me). Your donations have not only given them materials and resources for a successful school year, they have also shown my students a grand example fo kindness.”

Funded Apr 27, 2020As a 2nd grade teacher with English Language Learners, it is challenging to find books that are just right for my scholars. I often use my own money to scour book fairs, book stores and used book sales for books to add to my classroom library as well as for books to send home. With non-fiction books, it's an added challenge! In order for students to be successful with reading, they must have books that they are comfortable with, that feed their interests and that provide them with vocabulary to supplement what they are learning during my lessons. The books that your donations have provided, suit all of my students needs.
In my classroom, reading is done in a few different ways! First and foremost, my scholars pick up real books and read them. With a notebook and pencil on the desk, they spend some time taking notes (depending on the skill of the week) on the book that they are reading. Books are also read using a couple different online platforms. Students use a laptop or tablet, log on to Epic or Renaissance Place and choose a book to read. Finally, reading also involves listening to me read a story.
Let me tell you about Krysten! This is a child that loves animals! So much so, that she has 6 pets in her New York City, two-bedroom apartment! She loves reading about dogs. But, she is a low-level reader and finding books to suit her interest and skill level has been very difficult. Thanks to your donation, Krysten now has books to read on her level and in her interest.
Thank you so much for providing my young readers, especially Krysten, with non-fiction books on their level. You are not only supporting their reading skills, you are also showing them that reading is so important that kind strangers send books directly to their classroom.”

Funded Dec 31, 2019Thank you so much for supporting the love of reading and spreading kindness to the scholars in my class! These books were (are) very important additions to my library. In my nearly twenty-five years of teaching, I have found that it is very important to read books about how we show kindness to others! They hear about kindness and maybe talk about kindness. But, it's important for them to SEE kindness in picture books and have it acted out in real life.
In my classroom, reading looks like it does in most learning environments; scholars are seated on a carpet, in front of a teacher. However, because I am passionate about developing a love of reading, you will often find kids reading to kids! My scholars read to each other, suggest books to each other and support each other when they come across a difficult words. "Peer reading" is not just a phrase found in college-level reading materials. It is an act of leadership, learning and a love of reading.
Masen and Brian are two scholars who are especially loving these new books about kindness! Interestingly enough, Masen and Brian are struggling readings! They are English Language Learners who are receiving support services in reading. But, these books have allowed them to form a bond. They now read to each other.
Thank you for keeping the love of reading in my class and thank you for encouraging kindness.”

Black, White and Read All Over
Funded Oct 14, 2019Do you have any idea how much of an impact your donation has made on my students!? Because of you, they now have basic materials to write, draw, research, edit and publish! My students are using your donation to learn about animals, write informative paragraphs about their chosen animal and publish their report in a newsletter! They are so excited! Because of your generosity, my scholars are real writers and journalists!
What's most exciting about this project is that they'll be able to share their work with friends, other students, parents, teachers and administrators. Your donations has made it possible for them to showcase what they've learned in a very public way! They'll also be the only lower grade class to publish their work in a newsletter. They are very excited. Just today, Gabriela (age 7) said, "I've never written a full page about dolphins before". This project has motivated each of my scholars to do a lot of writing.
Thank you for your donation. It has turned my 2nd grade scholars into over-achieving journalists. You are appreciated!”

Funded Feb 17, 2019Thank you for supporting my scholars! Your donation of copy paper and chart paper allow them to complete assignments and learn in various ways. I know it may seem like a basic item to have in the classroom. But, when there is no paper, learning becomes challenging.
When I told my students that kind strangers donated to our classroom, many of them asked "why?". I told them that Most people in this world are very nice and like doing things to help young scholars succeed!
As the school year comes to a close, the materials that you have donated will be used for projects that showcase all that they have learned! We are currently making books about Nigeria! And will use the chart paper to teach other classes about this beautiful country! Thank you for all that you have done for the students in my class.”

Can You Hear Me Now
Funded Mar 27, 2018Because of your donation, my scholars can focus on completing assignments and using new programs to reinforce their learning. As you know, technology is used heavily and it's important for children to not only stay focused on their task, but also refrain from distracting others while they work. Your donation has allowed for both of those things to happen in the classroom and in the computer lab. Currently, scholars are using a a few programs daily. One program allows them to read/listen to books on the computer. This particular program also reads the words to quizzes that they take to assess their comprehension. Another program, adds to their knowledge of mathematical concepts. For 45 minutes each week, scholars use this program to practice their skills. Finally, for a few minutes each week, students are exposed to fun kid-friendly Ondine games that support their learning.
Your donation has been instrumental in providing institution to our scholars. Just before Bradley, our Headphone Monitor, distributes the headphones, our class says "thank you, Donor". On behalf of the students that you have supported, thank you.”

Funded Mar 27, 2018Thank you so much for your donations! The pencil sharpener and sanitizing wipes were necessities for my scholars! My scholars go through a lot of pencils, as I'm sure you know, and without a quality pencil sharpener it would be impossible for them to complete work. Every month, a new "Pencil Monitor" is chosen and we are so appreciative of the high functioning pencil sharpener. It is super fast! The sanitizing wipes are used weekly to keep my scholars (and me) healthy and clean.
Thank you for showing my students that they are important. I appreciate you.”

Funded Sep 16, 2018Thank you so much for supporting my scholars! Your donation allows them to see exemplars of expected work. It allows them to observe small objects during science instruction. The document camera allows scholars to focus their attention on lessons being taught. Prior to your donation of a document camera, my scholars had to wait for me to come to each desk to show them writing, objects and materials. They had to share copies of materials that they needed to see clearly. Now, I simply show the object to the class using the document camera. It has changed the way I teach. It has changed and improved the way my students learn.
Thank you for your donation.”

Funded Oct 24, 2017We have a computer lab, in our school, that is used for student learning, test preparation and special programs. All of these elements utilize technology along with websites and online programs that promote the progress of our scholars. Your donation has made an impact on how our scholars do all of those things. Headphones and computer mice are integral parts of the success of technology instruction. Without working headphones, students cannot hear the text from online reading programs. Without working computer mice, students cannot show they know an answer to an Ondine quiz. Without working headphones and computer mice, students cannot demonstrate their knowledge of skills learned while using Ondine programs. Thank you for providing us with the tools needed to support our scholars.
What's most exciting about the new headphones and computer mice is that students can now be independent learners in the computer lab! Prior to your donation, students had to share and instruction had to be differentiated based on number of headphones instead of student progress. My students are excited to use technology independently.
Gi, a third grade English Language Learner, was often discouraged by the lack of headphones in the computer lab. She desperately needed to the headphones so she could listen to text written in English and have it translated for her to Spanish. Prior to your donation, she had to depend on a classmate, interrupt their learning and wait for them to translate text. She was frustrated. Now, she can do all that by herself and learn English at a pace equal to her peers.
Thank you for supporting our scholars with your donation of headphones and computer mice. Our 21st century scholars can now work independently and use Ondine programs without any distractions.”

Funded May 1, 2017Because if you, our annual talent show was a success! Students at my school love to sing, dance and perform. We needed wireless microphones to make the every voice heard. Your donation made sure members of our audience could hear our talented students.
What was most exciting for our students was they were able to use these wireless microphones and take command of the entire stage! They were stars! They looked professional and polished with your donation. The microphones were not only pieces of technology, they were tools used by our young stars to shine.
Fernando was one particular student who warmed to this new technology. He was mentored for months to be our first student host. The day he got the new microphone, he immediately used the mute feature and encouraged others to use it as well, so the batteries don't run out quickly and so talking is not a distraction to others. The night of the talent show, Fernando commanded the stage and wowed the audience. That microphone seemed to mature him. He was no longer a shy English Language Learner. He was a Master of Ceremonies. We were all so proud of him.
Thank you for providing our talented students with microphones for our talented students. We appreciate your donation.”
