  • Developing a Stronger Science Vocabulary Through Play!

    Funded Mar 31, 2025

Thank you so much for supporting this project for kinetic sand and science vocabulary figurines! The kids have been very excited for new kinetic sand to play in and I've been able to teach them advanced vocabulary for animals like "chimpanzees", "bison", and "cheetah". This type of play allows for students to learn without having it feeling like work. They have been able to sort the animals into the jungle, river and desert habitats.

They got increasingly excited when we put the purple and pink together and we were able to work on specific names of bugs and dinosaurs. It's been interesting to see which color and animals the students have decided were their favorites. "Mrs. Lemos, I want to the blue sand today with the ocean animals!" or "Can I have the green sand today with the lion?" It's been wonderful to see their excitement as they expand their vocabulary.

Thank you for supporting my students and I hope you know what a difference you are making!”

  • Help My Students Avoid the Summer Slide!

    Funded Apr 10, 2025

Thank you so much for making this project possible! The students love these kinds of books and are going to be thrilled to be able to bring them home. They'll be able to work on story questions (e.g., who, what, where, when, why), speech sounds, and learning new vocabulary over the summer. Thank you for giving my students resources that will help them keep the speech and language skills they worked so hard for during the school year!”

  • Engineering Stronger Language Skills!

    Funded Mar 18, 2025

Thank you so much for supporting this project! My students are loving designing new boats, planes and cars. They get a chance to express their creativity while using materials to create fun new things during their sessions.

They have been able to practice skills including following directions (ex. "Put the plane wings 'between' the straws", "wrap the rubber bands 'around' the straws"), social language for sharing materials and using problem solving strategies when their first designs don't work the way they want them to. I appreciate your generosity in supporting my students in learning these skills!”

  • Making Futures Bright!

    Funded Sep 27, 2024

Thank you so much for creating some new excitement during our speech sessions! A student that I had not planned to do the "finding sounds" activity with was in my room when the package was delivered. They are working on asking questions with the correct grammar and asked appropriately if we could open the box. I wasn't sure what kind of reaction I would get, but thought they may want to make something with the colored paper. They were most excited for the Post-It tabs though! They turned down their end of session choice activity of playing with cars for a chance to Post-It sounds in a book we had read together. They loved seeing the sounds they were looking for with bright colors and being able to interact with a book that before had just been words.

I had put together the project cases with my students' journals, books and the new Post-its before they came to the session. When I passed them the cases they were thrilled that they got their own case to keep things together. I had forgotten I already put the Post-its in and turned back to them when they exclaimed "Wait, we get Post-its? I want green!" They immediately got to work marking off their sounds in books and practicing them when it was their turn. Thank you for putting a smile on their face today!”

  • Organizing Our Materials So We Have More Time to Learn!

    Funded Aug 16, 2024

Thank you so much for funding this project for an mobile organizer. My students were so excited to get their "own" space in my room! Over the course of the year the space gets busier and full of creations. Having a space where we know exactly where the materials are going to go makes a world of difference!

I appreciate your support as we start this school year. Having another organizer for the room has made the room cleaner and it easier find all the fun things we like to play with (e.g., Legos, paintings, drawings, crafts) over the year. Right now one of my groups has a series of books, journals and magnifying glasses to find their sounds in books. Having a quick place to get the materials has already saved us time this year!

I hope you know what a difference you've made in my room, as well as, how many minutes you've added of time for the kids to play and learn throughout the day!”

  • Help My Students Avoid the Summer Slide!

    Funded May 21, 2024

Thank you so much for making this project possible! Before this project was funded I was explaining to the students that this year the bags would look a little different. There were a number of students that were hoping to decorate their bags with the fabric markers and when we got the news the project had been funded they couldn't wait to start decorating!

I was also able to tell some very excited students that they would be getting a puppet to create stories with over the summer. Whenever I ask what their favorite parts of the summer language bags are, the answer is almost always the puppets. When we return from summer break they are ready to tell me about the adventures they had with their puppet. After doing these bags with students over the years, I can say that they have appeared to be more effective than any homework packets or worksheets I've sent home in the past in helping my students retain their skills. Thank you so much for your generosity and giving these students the best chance against the "summer slide"! We are so lucky to have your support!”

  • We Love Cars, Trucks and Things that Go!

    Funded Apr 14, 2024

"CARS!!!!!" My students have been so excited about the new car materials, construction zones and car books that have appeared at our school. They started off with building cars on the Magnatile car bases and moved to Hot Wheels on the car rug!

One of my students was so excited about building on the Magnatile Car bases he jumped up and down with a big grin. He was able to build a truck on the base and show his peer, who also got to build his own car, because we had multiple bases. The student was able to use language to communicate that he was excited about his truck and what he did to build it.

The kinetic sand is a hit and the construction zone that was built allowed for language to talk about basic concepts, what they were going to build and how they were going to build it. Thank you so much for making this project possible and allowing my students to enjoy their language sessions even more this spring!”

  • Increasing Language Skills With New Books!

    Funded Apr 10, 2024

Thank you so much for your support for my students and this project! They are loving the new books. These books have already resulted in a lot of laughter while my students are learning. From wondering what was making the "mysterious smell" in Pete the Cat and the Mysterious Smell to learning how Scaredy Squirrel Makes a Friend which included needing a pine air freshener and lemons!

Your support for this project will result in my students developing a stronger vocabulary, better understanding of wh questions (I.e., who, what, where, when, why), and increased understanding of feelings (their own and in others). Thank you for allowing these books to create whole new worlds for my students to explore!”

  • Crafting Our Way to Stronger Language Skills!

    Funded Mar 29, 2024

Thank you so much for supporting this project and my students! This year my students are loving anything they can color or create, so when I pulled out the materials for masks they were all smiles. We had a series of rainbow unicorns make an appearance and it was interesting to see for the foam masks that the students who chose to make robots asked if they had to follow the patterns they were given. When I told them no their creativity came out in full force!

Some of my students had used the paint sticks in their classroom and immediately asked to use them when they appeared in my room as an option to earn. The beauty of these sticks is they can color over the other colors without ruining the paint for the next student (my preschoolers especially love to do this). A quick swipe on the paper and the color goes right back to what it was! The students enjoyed being able to make layers in their paintings and were so proud of what they had made. Thank you for allowing my students to experience the fun of painting without needing to create an entire paint station in a room that doesn't have a sink! I thank you for the smocks so their clothes are still clean after they are finished!”
