  • Where Oh Where Can You Be?

    Funded Dec 4, 2024

I just want to thank each and every one of the donors who made this project a success. These shelves will allow me to organize books in a way that allow students to easily find what they need. Your generosity has made a difference in the education of my students allowing them to be more independent when choosing reading materials.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lawlor

  • Write, Wipe, Build

    Funded Nov 27, 2023

Using whiteboards and magnetic letters in phonics instruction offers a dynamic and interactive approach to teaching reading, spelling, and writing. Whiteboards provide an immediate, low-pressure environment for students to practice and experiment with letter sounds and word formation. The ability to erase and rewrite allows for frequent trial and error, fostering confidence as students receive instant feedback on their attempts. This active participation enhances their understanding of letter-sound relationships, helping them build a solid foundation in phonics. By engaging multiple senses—writing, seeing, and manipulating—the use of whiteboards supports various learning styles and helps reinforce key phonics skills.

Magnetic letters further enrich this learning process by providing a tactile, hands-on experience that encourages students to physically arrange and rearrange letters to form words. This kinesthetic activity promotes deeper engagement with the material, aiding memory retention and helping students connect the sounds of letters to their corresponding symbols. The flexibility of magnetic letters also allows for quick and easy word-building exercises, which reinforce spelling patterns and enhance students' ability to decode and encode words. Overall, these tools create a fun, interactive, and effective learning environment that encourages active participation, supports skill development, and fosters a love of learning in early literacy.”

  • Diving Into a Good Book

    Funded Dec 31, 2022

My students were blown away when they came into the classroom to see it transformed into an underwater escape. They noticed the light up neon whale, the underwater bubbles, soft blue lights and light up fish net. After introducing our One School One Book, Song for a Whale, by Lynn Kelly, we dove right into learning all we could about whales and sign language. The students really became part of the book with our room transformation! Thank you for your generosity to make this fun and exciting transformation happen.”

  • A Tower of Choices!

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

My spinning bookshelves are just what this classroom needed! As the shelves were rolled into my room, the students were in awe. When I started filling them, someone said, "We will be able to find our books so much easier now!" And THAT was the "why" behind getting them.

My students love reading and these spinning shelves made my library more organized. Students know what they are looking for and can SEE the books, rather than just the spines. They no longer get frustrated when looking for that special book.

I love that the students are now taking more ownership in returning books to where they belong and taking better care of our classroom library!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lawlor

  • Flex and Focus!

    Funded Feb 17, 2022

Flex and Focus has made such a difference in the work my students have competed. As a teacher, I am able to have more books out and available to my students. Additionally, I can focus on multiple genres at a time, providing access to fiction, nonfiction, chapter books, and much more all at once. When the students have access to many genres at one time, they are more engaged in reading, picking books that are of interest to them, causing more and more reading!

My students were so excited when our shelves arrived. They were eager to help sort books and set up the shelves.

Now that I have the shelves, I am noticing an increase in reading and interest in reading. Reading scores are on the rise! Next steps could be to have students help organize the books by topic. This would require students to focus on main idea a skill that is a struggle at times. With the space to be able to accommodate many books, students can become specific in their categorization. Finally the students are taking ownership for keeping books neat and orderly.”

  • I Can Find It!

    Funded Nov 17, 2021

What a difference these bookshelves have made in my room. Books are so much easier to find! Books of the same series or reading level are place together in a labeled basket.

There is no more interrupting during small group instruction asking where to find a book! Students are helping each other and working as a team to keep our classroom books neat and organized.

The students are now taking pride in our classroom books.. They look for the appropriate basket and neatly return the book. Our books are no longer getting lost, torn or ripped!”

  • A Warm Place to Sit

    Funded Aug 13, 2021

Thanks you so much for supporting A Warm Place to Sit! It was a wonderful addition to my classroom after the rugs we had we no longer usable. It is large enough where students can be spread out a little more than usual. It is colorful and soft to sit on.

I am a believer of gathering on the carpet for group lessons. Having everyone gathering together helps with focus and participation, along with allowing students to be able to turn and talk and have relevant discussions with each other about their learning.

Thank you for providing my students with a opportunity to grow their learning.”

  • Growing on My Own

    Funded Jul 9, 2021

Thank you for all your donations to our project! With school being far from normal the past several years, I see a definite decline in stamina and reading ability. These kids that you funded allow me to specialize instruction to a specific skill and provide a follow up activity that students can do independently and self check. The self checking aspect is important because it then allows me to work with another group of student uninterrupted. Best of all, this is encouraging more reading in the classroom, and students are getting more and more out of their reading!”

  • See the Diversity in Me!

    Funded Mar 16, 2021

Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity. During these unprecedented times, it is only logical to spread the message of diversity, equality and uniquenesses into the classroom. These books provided many students the ability to read about characters just like themselves. See yourself in a book and being able to relate to experiences allows children to gain deeper meaning in written pieces and allows them to feel a sense of self worth; I am important enough to be in a book! What an amazing feeling! My students are loving all the new diverse series books that are ow in our library!”
