Thank you immensely for your generous donations! This project was funded swiftly, enabling students to get the most out of these much needed materials, and soon! As the semester starts, students will be thrilled to start with fresh materials. I will share the outcome in a letter and photos on the project page here.”

  • Art Club Sustainability Goals

    Funded Dec 3, 2017

Thank you so much for your generosity! With the materials supplied by your donations Art Club students were able to complete two long-term art projects, promoting sustainability and recycling in our school. Our educational campus struggles to recycle properly, but helping to supply bins and positive imagery coupled with reminders about the importance of recycling helps support our community in the right direction!

With this campaign students supplied each classroom with recycling bins, which, when combined with bins finally delivered to the school from the city's Office of Sustainability, were enough for a trash, paper recycling, and plastic recycling bins. Students painted at least once for each room with their own images supporting recycling. Art Club was also able to complete and install its second mural in the hallway. After last year's Diversity mural, this year's Sustainability mural now is on permanent wall display, reminding students to be custodians of their planet.

These projects were not only positive creations for the school community, but were also powerful learning experiences. Through each project, Art Club students hones their abilities to collaborate, brain storm, work on a long-term vision from draft, to second draft, to breaking the final down into sections and parts everyone could work on, to seeing their goal through. These are real life skills that groups like clubs can have the unique experience of offering students more consistently.

With the start of the new school year, students have been coming to find me, eager to begin this year's club and make even more powerful messages with their creations. Your gifts have helped inspire young people to work together, embracing leading and listening with different ethnicities, genders, and ages ( 7th graders now have friends in 11th grade, our 9th grade members are close with seniors and last years graduating members!).”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lang

  • Proud to Present!

    Funded Dec 10, 2016

Sorry for the delay in this update, your patience and generosity are extremely appreciated!

With the arrival this year of some new materials and perhaps most importantly, a re-usable display board, my students have been able to extend their personal art making experiences, while also being able to a) have an easier way of displaying their work, and b) see their work hung in a more finished manner. The mesh display frames have really helped our school's art shows, by allowing for more space for artwork to be hung in a more stable and presentable fashion. We are looking forward to continued use of this display board next year, during critiques and art shows, and have it safely stored for the duration of summer. It has been a huge help and improvement again in the appearance of displaying artwork. The sculpting materials and painting surfaces, on the other hand, provided students with exciting new materials to work with and extended a number of personal projects they were able to create.

The pictures for the project display the new frames being used, what we had before ( just wall and paper), and some close ups of student work on the display frame, as well as a picture of a student's personal work on one of the gessoed boards, which really came in handy as we were running out of canvas board in the spring. My students always appreciate seeing new materials come into the room and were relieved to have these arrive.

For our next fundraising endeavor, students would like to further grow our displays with the purchase of actual frames, and would also like to expand materials with some new keyboards and styluses. Hopefully, you can help us out again!

Either way, thank you so much for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lang
