  • Don't Forget to Be Owlsome

    Funded Dec 1, 2024

Your generosity is overwhelmingly appreciated! I have always said that my favorite lesson to teach is Owl Pellets. Not only do we dissect the pellets but we also learn all about birds of prey. This lesson is filled with hands on learning experiences and never ceases to engage. My excitement for the topic spills over and I can see it fill up the students cups. They become so enthralled in the dissection, we often need more than one class period to complete it.

I am so excited to continue the tradition of dissecting owl pellets with my 4th Grade Scientists and I can do this because of your generous donations.”

    Funded Apr 3, 2023

Thank you for the generous donations to our project. It was amazing to see so many people extend their kindness to us. Together with our new Tower Garden, our Green Team is going to do wonderful things.

We are super excited to add the compost to our outdoor growing garden. These donations will help us as we are actively building our garden club and improving our school community.

We appreciate the support you have given to our project. We look forward to watchng the worms go to work!!!

    Thank you again!”

  • Back to the Basics

    Funded Nov 23, 2022

Thank you again for your generous donations to my project. The supplies have afforded an opportunity for my students and our lab to be more organized. Organization is a vital part of being a successful student. Through the use of the copy paper, everyone is able to have access to our Science workbooks which we had limited hard copies of. The FriXion gel pens allow students to have color coded worksheets to help them digest and organize the material being taught. Finally, the pencils are a huge help in keeping the science lab running. My lab services the entire school so we go through a lot of pencils with 400+ my minds at work.

My students are extremely grateful for the materials we have received and are always excited when someone wants to support our classroom. We thank you again and appreciate you for donating to the PS 239 Science Lab.”

  • Whoooooo Needs Your Help?

    Funded Sep 23, 2021

I am sending you a heartfelt THANK YOU. Your donation to our project has allowed my students to feel some sense of normalcy.

Over the past year and a half, my students have not had any real hands on scientific experiences. This is an integral part of teaching and learning. When students are able "to do", to get their hands dirty, to make a mess...it allows them to really understand the scientific concepts being taught.

I will admit, owl pellet dissection is one of, ok it is, my favorite lesson to teach. My excitement for this lesson is contagious and even the squeamish are digging in with their hands by the end of the lesson.

When I taught this lesson last year to my 4th graders, we were fully remote. It just wasn't the same. For the first time, I was dissecting an owl pellet alone. I made a promise to those 4th graders that we would dissect owl pellets in 5th grade, even though it was a 4th grade lesson.

Your donation helped me keep my promise. This is important to me and above all to my students. Again, I am eternally grateful that you were able to bring this to life for them. Thank you for giving a "hoot".”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. K

  • The Traveling Science Show

    Funded Aug 17, 2020

This Jumbo Cart played a huge part in making sure my in house instruction was possible. Not being able to use my Science Lab for teaching was a huge bummer. I had to figure out a way to travel between classes but still be able to teach as usual. During Covid times, nothing is "as usual". The Jumbo Cart allowed me to create my own mobile science lab. The students loved when I rolled into their rooms with the blinged out cart. I added lights, a class pet and was also able to transport my own PPE and materials to teach. I truly was able to teach very closely to the way I did in the lab. I am so appreciative of that.

Your generosity during this difficult time in educating children is priceless.

This Jumbo Cart will not be wasted, it is a great asset to my teaching inside my lab, as well as, moving about the building pushing into classrooms.

Thank you again for your generosity and faith in me as a teacher.

Stay safe and wishing you all the happiest of holidays.”

  • Seeing the Science Fair in Color

    Funded Dec 28, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous donations. The sprocket has enabled students to add pictures to their science fair projects that they otherwise might not have been able to. The sprocket allowed them a quick and easy way to take a pic and print it out.

The sprocket has also enabled our science lab to document what is going on in our room. We can take a pic of something we are doing and with in seconds print it out. It is easy to use and we are so happy to have this as part of our classroom.

Thank you again for generosity. It is greatly appreciated!”

  • Budding Scientists

    Funded Dec 22, 2015

It has been amazing to see the impact that the tablets have had in my classroom. The children are able to have immediate access to technology and the resources it provides. They are able to look up information, search for images and make connections that they had not been able to do previously in the science lab.

What makes the tablets exciting is that they are so mobile and efficient. Their small size allows the students to bring them to their tables and work with them without all the bulk. The fact that we have not had technology in our lab make this gift very exciting for everyone.

I have found that our new tablets have had a strong impact on my students who have special needs. The tablets give them an opportunity to be on a more even playing field. I have one particular student who is extremely tech savvy and he has shown me all I need to know about tablets. Because of this gift, he has a new role as our "tech guy" in the room and this makes him feel very special.

I am sincerely grateful for the gifts we have received and can not thank you all enough for your generous contributions.”

  • Reading Together

    Funded Dec 10, 2010

Planning out month long units is a lot of work. What adds to the difficulty of this task is resources and materials. Often times as teachers, we plan out wonderful lessons and have amazing ideas. These lessons can only truly come to life when the students can make connections to them. What better way to do that than through reading.

Two of our current units deal with ancient civilizations and ecosystems. Both are wildly fascinating and can lend themselves to countless hours of study. Knowing in advance that these units were going to be towards the end of the year, I thought ahead and reached out for help in acquiring the materials that would enhance a wonderful unit of study.

Thanks to your kind generosity, both of my classes have wonderful resources to reference and learn from. Your generosity has allowed student to peer into the window of their past and to learn about how to protect their future.

We are forever grateful for your kindness. ”

  • Charts Charts Everywhere

    Funded Dec 2, 2010

There are many stresses that a teacher encounters as she navigates her way through a school year. I have made it my mission, as a teacher, to make sure that my students are comfortable inside my classroom. This comfort includes being as stress free as possible and having the supplies they need to carry out their daily activities.

Many schools across the city have been faced with serious budget cuts. In order to preserve activities and positions, supplies have been the first thing cut. Missing in our school from almost the start of the school year has been chart paper. This causes many teachers to come up with other creative ways to keep track of the work they are doing or simply to instruct. I have found myself teaching my two classes using the overhead projector, but they are not always able to copy everything I model in a timely fashion. Due to the lack of chart paper, the students have no real reference to what we have been doing in class.

Thanks to your generous donation, this is no longer a problem for my classes. We have been excited to create charts to track the lessons we are learning but also to work on group activities. Thank you for thinking about others in a time when many struggle to care for themselves. We are eternally grateful for your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. K

I am the sole science teacher servicing almost 500 students. I am in a school where many of our students receive free and reduced price lunch. My students are amazing young scientists who enjoy learning. They actively participate in activities and classroom discussions. They are a pleasure to work with and would be very grateful for any donations they receive to help enhance our science lab.
