  • Help Buy Reading Resources for Immigrant and Refugee Children

    Funded Oct 18, 2024

Thank you so much for contributing to my donors choose. I apologize for the delay in responding; I experienced multiple family deaths in the past couple of months, and was dealing with that. However, I want to let you know that I am truly grateful for the support you have given to my project.

I have, and am, using these gift cards to purchase certain instructional materials that enhance my reading instruction. I have a couple older students who did not know how to read at all, in any language, due to not having attended school before arriving in the United States. Your support means that I am able to diversify and personalize instruction to help them. I am happy to report that these students are learning quickly, and are very eager to be able to read; I see their progress daily.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Krol

  • Inspiring Our Multilingual Future

    Funded Sep 11, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous contributions to my classroom. We use the materials that were gifted daily. Our kindergarten workbooks actually don't hold pencil very well, so we have been using the markers daily for working in these. We love to use the crayons, colored pencils, and scissors for other supplemental projects, like for our unit on plants and how they grow. They still get excited any time I pull out the crayons, colored pencils, etc. (I will be giving all of them art supplies for Christmas, because it's something that is accessible to all of them, regardless of their English/reading levels).

The books are beautiful not only for allowing the students to see reflections of themselves, but we also use them as discussion pieces. One of the challenges with ESL students is getting them to feel comfortable speaking, and the vivid pictures in the books that show pieces of their experiences, help to do this.

Of course, comfort is important, and the cushions and rugs give my younger students a place to sit (the chairs and tables in my room are too high for them), but my older students also enjoy them. I really try to create a safe and welcoming environment for them, and I appreciate your support in doing so.”

  • We’ve Bin Thinking About Composting…

    Funded Apr 22, 2024

We have been having a great time with our compost and planting materials! We have been steadily adding compost to the bin, and feeding it to our worms, who are growing magnificently. We will be taking our herbs home throughout this week (our mint didn't sprout, so, we'll be replanting with something else, and our oregano has JUST sprouted. This is a great lesson in disappointment, perseverance, and patience). We are super-excited to watch our worms grow, and eagerly watch what they do (spoiler - not much, at least not to the short attention spanned PreK). We can't wait to see what else happens with our worms, compost, herbs, and our larger garden!”

  • Books and Toys For a Better Future

    Funded Dec 14, 2023

Our students have been having a fantastic time with our new materials.

The kitchen area has become very popular. They really enjoy the workbench and tools. Surprisingly, many of our boys have also started playing more with the kitchen materials.

We've also enjoyed looking at the x-rays on our light table, which is a great calming area for students.

We continue to replace playdoh and watercolors as our students use them up making their fabulous artistic creations. We have also been reading some of our new books, and will read others during Ramadan. I have put a couple out to preview, and students are already asking when we will read them; they are always very excited to have new books.

Our internet isn't allowing me to upload photos, but, I will do that tomorrow hopefully.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Krol

  • File Under "Construction"

    Funded Aug 2, 2023

Thank you so much for your donation. My students have been greatly enjoying the materials we've received. They have been having a great time with all of the new building materials (legos, magnatiles, etc.). Having additional materials means that not only can more children play in an area, but their creations can become more intricate and complex. We have also new been fortunate enough to have gotten some new types of toys, such as the magna-sticks, which have been used to help students create shapes and letters in a fun and new way.”

  • Expansion Pack!

    Funded Aug 2, 2023

I wanted to thank you for the donations that allowed us to purchase materials for our dollhouse and our kitchen. These are two of the most popular areas in the classroom, and the students have been greatly enjoying using the extra materials. The cooking making kits are used every single day, and all of my students enjoy them. Being able to have dolls that reflect my students' families has also been an important part of making them feel welcome and included in the classroom. We have been having a great time developing our imaginations with these materials.”

  • Growing Through Growing

    Funded Jan 17, 2023

I apologize for the delay in writing this thank you. It has been a wild year, but a very fulfilling one. My students were incredibly excited to get the garden materials. Unfortunately, there was a big delay in getting a garden plot, but we were able to get some seeds into the pots and ground for them to take home. They very much enjoyed being able to see their plants grow. We are hopeful that we will have a garden plot this fall (for some fall/overwintering veggies) and excited to hit the ground running next spring.

Thank you so much for your donations.”

  • A Place for Everything, and Everything in Its Place

    Funded Nov 30, 2022

Thank you so much for the new storage. We have been putting the cubbies together on our clerical days. It does take some time because we also have to wait for the union to remove the old cubbies that are falling apart, so, we've been putting them in one at a time. It is already making a huge difference in both our students ability to organize their belongings, as well as reach them as these cubbies are somewhat lower than our old ones. They are also much more attractive and take up less space than our old ones, which is beneficial in a room that is already pretty crowded. Thank you again for your generous donation.”

  • Future Writers, Artists, and Craftsmen

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

Thank you so much for heling to sponsor this project. Our students have been very excited to use the materials contained in this package, as you can see by the photos I've included. The colored pencils have been a huge hit, and the alphabet puzzle gets chosen daily as a classroom activity. We've also been using the wiki stix for small group and as a free choice, along with the lacing cards. It's been very exciting for the students to have some new choices in the classroom that help with their fine motor skills. Thanks again!”

  • Beat the Heat

    Funded Aug 9, 2022

Thank you so much for the air conditioner. It was so useful during the beginning of the year when temperatures were in the upper 80s and 90s. The difference in our classroom was pretty much immediate, and we were thrilled to not be sweating through our days. Our students were also able to nap comfortably in the afternoons despite the high temperatures, and we had far fewer absences this year due to the heat (last year, we had children literally getting sick from the heat so parents began keeping them home when high temps were predicted). Being present and being able to focus is so important.”

My classroom has twenty eager learners, from many different countries and cultures. They are sweet, intelligent, enthusiastic students who want to learn as much as they can in PreK. Most of my students are low-income, and many of them come to school without knowing any English. A strong PreK experience is essential for them to experience future success.
