Crazy for Chromebooks!
Funded Jan 4, 2019Today, we've received our Chromebooks. In addition to our new Chromebooks, we also received 3 keyboards for our kindles. This will allow us to teach the students how to type correctly and efficiently. In third grade, students take state exams, and many of them will need to type on the computer. Getting them ready in first grade makes a big difference in their comfort level taking the assessment. Today we've opened our boxes, and the students were so excited! We have already started using them. Most students have kindles and tablets at home, but most aren't comfortable with using a keyboard or a mouse. Some students, don't have any technology at all, and seeing these new computers put a huge smile on their face! These extra computers and keyboards are really going to make typing easy and fun!
Today, we have already started taking Accelerated Reader tests to increase our reading comprehension. Students are so excited to pass a test and get a reading bead! They are learning how to type switching from letters to numbers. Also they are learning the most important key-the space bar! With the extra computers and keyboards, I am able to get a group of 7 students on the computer to practice Zearn. Zearn is a math program, that is individualized. While I am able to pull a math group and teach specific skills, another group of students are able to log themselves into the program and practice computer skills while learning math! These computers are great additions to our classroom, and we look forward to using them everyday! Thank you so much for your donations, it will make a great impact on these students' lives!”

Let's KINDLE Excitement for Learning!
Funded Dec 5, 2016Me and my classroom really appreciate the Kindles. We can now do projects. One app is a poster app, and students can make visuals to help them understand a topic. For example, they can make wanted posters for American Heroes.
Also, we could really use the Kindles for studying Fry Words. A lot of families do not have much time to study at home, and a lot of students' parents do not speak English. It makes it difficult for students to know their Fry Words. With this app, the word is actually read to them. Now they have the ability to study them.
Lastly, we use Kindles as a technology group within small group learning. There is one app in particular, which seems like a game to students. They are on a mission to teach monsters how to read. Little do they know, they are actually reading and recognizing words through the game. It really helps with letter sounds and putting letter sounds together to form words. These Kindles are making a huge difference in the classroom!”

Keeping In Touch with Technology-Interactive Whiteboard Pen
Funded Feb 2, 2016My students and I really appreciate what you have donated. Now, our classroom is more interactive, playful, fun, and meaningful. The students get excited when they need to fill in fractions, circle a word, or fix a sentence. All of their excitement brings joy to me because they are applying what they learned in class through this technology.
Everyday, the students ask me when we are going to use the "magic pen." It has become not only a useful piece of equipment, but it has also became a classroom management tool. The magic pen chooses the students sitting and following directions to write with it.
We have done fractions, spelling, and interactive games so far with the pen. It has really made teaching more enjoyable to the kids. They get really excited when I click it on. I want to thank you all so much again for contributing to this project. My students and I will enjoy this pen for many years to come!”

Buckets of Fun
Funded Dec 24, 2015We have been using the reading buckets every single day! It is so nice to finally have books organized. Students can go to a colored bucket, and they can find a book that they can tackle! It's great to see students uncovering new books. I really saw an increase in their interest in reading. I also enjoy seeing that they are proud to have read a book all by themselves.
Now, my students don't miss much! After school one day, I devoted a lot of time to organizing the classroom library. The next day, they were so excited, and they wanted to know which buckets they would read from. They were so excited to see the bright colors. They could not wait to finish their work, so they can go find a book to read.
We really appreciate all of the wonderful donations! It really has made my students more confident readers. Now, they feel confident in picking a book that is just right for them, and they feel proud and accomplished when they tackle a book all by themselves. Thank you so much for this wonderful addition to my classroom!”
